A mysterious electrical storm plunges Manhattan into darkness. As a strange, smothering fog rolls in, all communication crashes. In the blink of an eye, the island seems to vanish into a void. Ugh
Revisado: 07-31-24
Done with these. Author had a big idea to start this one with a bang. It didn’t quite work on paper, was quickly tossed aside, and the rest of the book barely tried to back it up. I just never cared what was happening or why. And please just let Theo Cray retire somewhere. He dragged down the story every time the focus was on him.

Cameron Winter is an asshole.
Revisado: 05-27-24
He’s far from the only asshole in this book, but most of the rest are assholes because they exist only to be very thinly veiled political statements by the book’s author.

Not every thriller needs a twist ending
Revisado: 09-21-23
Especially if it’s not an interesting one. The only reason the ending ended up being unpredictable is that no reader would expect an author to go with such an obvious solution.

James Patterson leads you into the darkest recesses of the mind with this chilling, immersive audio thriller. We meet Brent Quill, a frustrated actor trying to take his game to the next level. When he learns about the intensive Method acting process, he dives in deep—and immediately lands the lead role in a TV series about a brutal serial killer. Did not take me by surprise
Revisado: 07-25-23
Once you know that this is called “The Method” and is about an actor playing the role of a serial killer, it is immediately obvious exactly what this story would be about. And it did not disappoint! It was, in fact, exactly what anyone would expect it to be. No surprises.

The accents get in the way
Revisado: 12-21-22
Would have been a lot more enjoyable if the narrator hadn’t tried so hard to give every character a different New England accent. Very distracting!

Disappointing
Revisado: 12-17-19
Even for a fun and silly action story, there were several plot points which stretched credulity to the point of distraction. Although the narrator was decent overall, there were several fairly common words that he did not seem to know how to pronounce, which was just odd.

With every turn in the road however, the puzzle only seems to grow more complicated.

Started great but barely went anywhere
Revisado: 10-22-18
This book started out with a very compelling premise and I looked forward to a good spooky paranormal thriller. The second act began a bit uneven but added a little to the intrigue of the story, before rushing to the end of the story. It feels like half of the book (or more) is missing.
If this were a detective novel, it would begin with a very strange murder. Who did it? How? And why? Then a fingerprint would be found at the scene leading directly to the killer and the book would end with a tense standoff where the motive and means of the murder would be revealed, without wasting the reader’s time telling a story about solving the mystery.
As for the reader, he has the perfect spooky British voice for an eerie story like this. It is an odd choice, though, for a story largely about 2 college students in Wisconsin. My favorite part was when he spookily narrated the roommates’ trip to the campus Wing Spot toward the beginning of the novel.

Lazy.
Revisado: 03-13-17
After setting up 3 intertwining plots - which could have made a fun & interesting thriller- the authors chose to jump right to the end and wrap up each one immediately. I guess with a name like James Patterson, there's no need to bother with the middle of the story - where the plot and characters are developed, where mystery and suspense can be artfully built on a good setup. Not here. The conclusion is arrived at quickly, followed by an epilogue that is - I assume - meant to pull readers into the series of hastily written underdeveloped novellas that follow this one.
