Historia
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Enjoyable listen that makes you think
Revisado: 07-18-24
This book was a very enjoyable and intriguing listen. It made me think about what makes us human vs when a robot or AI becomes “human.” Doug and Annie’s relationship made me think about what society has taught cis men to expect out of the women they are in relationships with and how his relationship with Annie Bot showed how limited his view of love and partnership really was.

I am not usually one for non fiction but this book was not only informative and thought provoking but a very enjoyable listen. I am left with many new ideas and many new questions about the way I think about death.

Wonderful listen!
Revisado: 10-10-23
This is story is beautifully written and performed. It’s timely for the world we live in today for sure. I saw other reviews saying they didn’t like this book bc it portrayed all men as bad? Those people are mistaken. This book has bad characters, men and women. And really kind and great characters, both men and women. True feminism is about equality and this book really captures that.

Historia
Years ago, just before the country was incinerated to wasteland, 10 men and their families colonized an island off the coast. They built a radical society of ancestor worship, controlled breeding, and the strict rationing of knowledge and history. Only the Wanderers - chosen male descendants of the original 10 - are allowed to cross to the wastelands, where they scavenge for detritus among the still-smoldering fires.

Terrible ending
Revisado: 12-10-21
There’s so much build up for an epic ending and so many ways this book could have gone that would have been fantastic. The ending however is a huge let down. Still a pretty good listen but disappointing in the end.
