Bad efforts at southern accents which almost sounded mocking

Too much tracking back and forth between many people who had many similarities. While I understand you were trying to tell a complicated story, other books I’ve read like this are not as chaotic

Historia
For months in early 1980, scientists, journalists, and ordinary people listened anxiously to rumblings in the long quiescent volcano Mount St. Helens. Still, when a massive explosion took the top off the mountain, no one was prepared. Fifty-seven people died, including newlywed logger John Killian (for years afterward, his father searched for him in the ash), scientist Dave Johnston, and celebrated local curmudgeon Harry Truman. The lives of many others were forever changed.

Historia
Aside from crowds of hikers, campers, and general tourists, there's a dark side to many that can be found in the great states of Oregon, Washington and Idaho. From strange disappearances, grisly murders and bone-chilling paranormal hauntings and ghost sightings, these pristine locales have a lot more to offer than just serene hiking trails or camping. In this third installment of National Park Mysteries & Disappearances, Steve Stockton, along with Bill Melder, presents the listener with a side to these locations you've never heard before.

The author just lists details like name, where they weee last seen, etc., no attempt to provide more. Narrator has a cadence in his reading that gets annoying.

Historia
In 1945, the Allied nations agreed on a judicial process, rather than summary execution, to determine the fate of the Nazis following the end of World War II. Held in Nuremberg, the ceremonial birthplace of the Nazi Party, the British, American, French, and Soviet leaders contributed both judges and prosecutors to the series of trials that would prosecute some of the most prominent politicians, military leaders, and businessmen in Nazi Germany.

Overall good
Revisado: 07-22-23
The comments about women involved in the story were almost always sexist.
But the rest was fascinating helping me understand not only the main trail better but also the anatomy of how a dictatorship develops and functions. It was startling to hear how similar in ways to what culminated in the Jan 6 insurrection.

Historia
With Allied armies poised on the banks of the Rhine, Nazi Germany tottered on the brink of collapse. The ensuing battles on German soil - especially those in the so-called Ruhr Pocket - were as fierce and hard-fought as any in the European theater. Going well beyond previous accounts, Derek S. Zumbro chronicles this key military campaign from a unique and fresh perspective - that of the defeated German soldiers and civilians caught in the final maelstrom of the war's Western front.

Historia
Of all the celebrities who served their country during World War II - and they were legion - Jimmy Stewart was unique. On December 7, when the attack on Pearl Harbor woke so many others to the reality of war, Stewart was already in uniform - as a private on guard duty south of San Francisco at the Army Air Corps Moffet Field. Seeing war on the horizon, Jimmy Stewart, at the height of his fame after Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and his Oscar-winning turn in The Philadelphia Story in 1940, had enlisted several months earlier.

Historia
In March 1941 Jimmy Stewart, America's boy next door and recent Academy Award winner, left fame and fortune behind and joined the United States Army Air Corps to fulfill his family mission and serve his country. He rose from private to colonel and participated in 20 often-brutal World War II combat missions over Germany and France. In mere months the war took away his boyish looks as he faced near-death experiences and the loss of men under his command. The war finally won, he returned home with millions of other veterans to face an uncertain future.

Revisado: 06-21-23
I thought I had purchased a different book about Jimmy Stewart in ww2. I had read that book previously and thought it would be fun to experience it in a different way. But things sounded off. Based on what I had read in that book and Jimmy Stewart in general the things this book was saying he said were obviously factionalized or the author took immense license with. The lurid, sensationalized details weren’t interesting either. His life in general and especially in the war were amazing enough without the need to sensationalize.
The narration made it even worse—it just magnified what the author already did.

Historia
The first book of D Day Through German Eyes has fascinated listeners around the world with its insight into the German experience of June 6, 1944. Now, book 2 contains a completely different set of astonishing German testimonies from the same archive. These newly translated eyewitness statements by German veterans show the defenders to be determined but psychologically insecure, often deluded in their thinking, and all too human in their shock at the onslaught they faced.

Absolutely fantastic book!
Revisado: 06-15-23
I thought it would be difficult to top the first book but I was wrong. I learned so much about what the Germans were being told. But it also resonates now as I wonder how people can believe the things they do and hold the perspectives they do. It makes it even clearer how easy it is to stray from democratic ideals, morals and ethics.
I have been privileged to live in Germany and although I know people with skewed, horrific perspectives live there as well as here, the changes the mainstream has made have been amazing. Angela Merkel is proof. Thanks to the author and his father. He must have been an amazing man based on how he handled the interviews.

Historia
Almost all accounts of D-Day are told from the Allied perspective, with the emphasis on how German resistance was overcome on June 6, 1944. But what was it like to be a German soldier in the bunkers and gun emplacements of the Normandy coast, facing the onslaught of the mightiest seaborne invasion in history? What motivated the German defenders, what were their thought processes - and how did they fight from one strong point to another, among the dunes and fields, on that first cataclysmic day?

Helped me understand the beach defenses than all the other books I’ve read about Normandy D Day. So interesting to hear how the Germans were viewing things, especially “defending Europe” and to have a better understanding of what the Reich propaganda was like as directed at the German people.

Historia
D-Day, June 6, 1944, and the 76 days of bitter fighting in Normandy that followed the Allied landing, have become the defining episode of World War II in the west - the object of books, films, television series, and documentaries. Yet as familiar as it is, as James Holland makes clear in his definitive history, many parts of the OVERLORD campaign, as it was known, are still shrouded in myth and assumed knowledge.

Some problems
Revisado: 06-13-23
Narrator was good but often voice was so soft it was hard to hear. I’m not an expert on WW2, but have read a lot. I struggle with leaders who are to into power. The author was soft on Montgomery based on a wide variety of other things I have read. He seems to have been very bossy and full of himself like McArthur.
