Historia
All Reyna and Kianthe want is to open a bookshop that serves tea. Worn wooden floors, plants on every table, firelight drifting between the rafters… all complemented by love and good company. Thing is, Reyna works as one of the Queen’s private guards, and Kianthe is the most powerful mage in existence. Leaving their lives isn’t so easy. But after an assassin takes Reyna hostage, she decides she’s thoroughly done risking her life for a self-centered queen. Meanwhile, Kianthe has been waiting for a chance to flee responsibility–all the better that her girlfriend is on board.

I prefer coffee but...
Revisado: 06-12-24
I did not expect to fall in love with this story, but only a couple chapters in I was caught up. the performance is good, there's usually a good amount of difference between the two voices of the characters. the characters feel pretty flushed out and realistic, and the book kept up at a good pace!

Historia
Twenty-seven-year-old Nazeli “Ellie” Gregorian enjoys the prestige of her tech marketing job but is sick of the condescending Patagonia-clad tech bros, her micromanaging boss, and her ex-boyfriend, who she’s forced to work with every day. When Ellie’s lovingly overbearing parents ask her to attend PakCon—a food packaging conference in Chicago—to help promote their company and vie to win an ad slot in the Superbowl (no big deal), she’s eager for a brief change and a delicious distraction. At the conference, she meets witty, devil-may-care Vanya Simonian.

Cute book!
Revisado: 05-31-24
This book feels very similar to Voskuni's first book, "sorry bro". The story arch is similar, and with the same wonderful narration, it felt fimilar from the start. If you liked the other book, you'll probably like this one too!
I gave it a 4 out of 5 because it just didn't quite grip my attention and heart. The downfall was more sudden and didn't completely feel right, and the recovery not super forfilling. It was a good book though and I enjoyed it.

Historia
Sylvie Campos and Lauren Machado have hated each other since before they were born. For generations, the Campos and Machado families have blamed each other for stealing pastry recipes they claim their great-grandfathers originated before fleeing Castro's Cuba. Having spent their lives as rivals, Lauren and Sylvie are now in their early thirties and primed to take over their respective family bakeries. That means working long, hot, seasons of outdoor food festivals where they are forced to endure each other—albeit with a lot of bantering and barb-trading.

I've listened to it several times and is so good!
Revisado: 01-16-24
In the beginning I was worried it was going to be a bit heavyhanded, but it turned out really good! I could empthise with both of the sides of the conflict and fell in love with the characters. It is also funny! The characters and the story is sweet and fun.
My criticisms are that some times with the narrator I wasn't sure who was saying what, but after a while I caught an ear for how the 2 main characters are performed differently. Secondly, sometimes it was a bit to keep track of the timeline of the story, how much time had passed. Also sometimes it was a bit unrealistic, but it's a fun story and was nothing that took me out of it too much!
I definitely recomend the book and the author! I can't believe it isn't more popular! It's one of my favorite books I've read in a while, especially in the genre!

Historia
Maeve Murphy doesn't have much to celebrate this holiday season. Ten years ago, she moved from Kingsford with no intention of returning. But home came calling, in the form of her mother's unexpected death. The least thing Maeve wants is to make friends—she's only back in Kingsford to help her father keep the family business, Murph's, afloat.

cute story
Revisado: 12-05-23
quite a nice experience overall. the story was good (even though a bit predictable) and was enjoyable! the narrator was great for most of it when it was just characters internal thoughts or sean descriptions. the narrator didn't do as well with dialogues between characters. it seemed to me the two main characters voices change, and it was hard to keep track of. the voices for the male characters were... a bit distracting. some of them were ok, but some just sounded really forced and were a bit distracting from the story.
even though the narration could have improvements, it was still a fun listen and I would recommend!

Historia
When Deputy US Marshal Danielle "Danny" Martin was told she'd gotten a promotion, she expected to be leading her own fugitive retrieval team. Instead, she got transferred to Pontian, Florida, of all places, and assigned to a Superhero support detail for Focus, a seemingly immortal superhero who is also one of the most famous lesbian icons on the planet. Bad enough she's got to spend every day working with a woman she's had a crush on since she was five years old, but when she arrives at her new post, things start getting weird.

So So Good!
Revisado: 11-08-23
such a good story! it got so much done is so little time. I wish I could just have stayed w the characters forever.
narrator was good! present to listen to, not distracting.
my one (small) gripe was that I noticed some repeat wording. the phrase "a few mins later" was used often enough that I noticed and distracted me a bit.
But again, such a good book! super excited for the next one!

When Nareh Bedrossian’s non-Armenian boyfriend gets down on one knee and proposes to her in front of a room full of drunk San Francisco tech boys, she realizes it’s time to find someone who shares her idea of romance. Enter her mother: armed with plenty of mom-guilt and a spreadsheet of Armenian men, she convinces Nar to attend Explore Armenia, a month-long series of events in the city. But it’s not the mom-approved playboy doctor or the wealthy engineer who catch Nar’s eye—it’s Erebuni, a woman as immersed in the witchy arts as she is in preserving Armenian identity.

Jason has a problem. He doesn't remember anything before waking up on a school bus holding hands with a girl. Apparently she's his girlfriend Piper, his best friend is a kid named Leo, and they're all students in the Wilderness School, a boarding school for "bad kids." What he did to end up here, Jason has no idea—except that everything seems very wrong.

missing 3 chapters!
Revisado: 10-13-22
I'm a big fan of Rick Riordan, I have no problems with the plot or story at all. I loved Jesse burnstines (I don't know quite how to spell it) narration of the original Percy Jackson books, but I'm not a huge fan of these narrators. particularly Rainy Fields, it just wasn't done very well, it didn't feel like the right choice.
The worst thing of all this, is that this audiobook is just flat out missing 3 chapters! I didn't know it till 80% of the way though the book that the chapters were missing, or I wouldn't haven't bothered listening in the first place!
I'm returning this book as soon as I figure out how to! I'm so bummed and annoyed!

Historia
"That book. It was about two women, and they fell in love with each other." And then Lily asked the question that had taken root in her, that was even now unfurling its leaves and demanding to be shown the sun: "Have you ever heard of such a thing?" Seventeen-year-old Lily Hu can't remember exactly when the question took root, but the answer was in full bloom the moment she and Kathleen Miller walked under the flashing neon sign of a lesbian bar called the Telegraph Club. America in 1954 is not a safe place for two girls to fall in love, especially not in Chinatown.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.
