What made the experience of listening to What I Know for Sure the most enjoyable?

So much to be said of the fact that Oprah is telling her own story, using her own experiences to make the point. The stories are so human that they are easy to relate to.

What was one of the most memorable moments of What I Know for Sure?

I love the story of how she came to Chicago, her thoughts about what made it a right move for her, and how her previous experience led to this point. I was making a similar transition in my life at the time and her experiences resonated with me.

Have you listened to any of Oprah Winfrey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I have not. but I will look for others because this was excellent!

Any additional comments?

I started the book by reading the physical copy because it was a gift. I was wearing my highlighter out. When I found it on audible, i was even more excited because I knew that I would heard the story from the woman herself. that just did it for me and it was an over the top sort of experience.

If you could sum up The First 90 Days, Updated and Expanded in three words, what would they be?

Missing the handouts!

i thought this was an excellent book, with lots of good sage advice. In fact, it was so much, and referenced specific diagrams, charts, or templates, that I wanted to write it down. After a few tries, i realized that i needed a companion workbook to go along with the audio, so that I could write down ALL the steps and recommendation, the personal learning plan, etc.

What other book might you compare The First 90 Days, Updated and Expanded to and why?

In terms of its potential impact, the 7 habits of highly effective people.

Have you listened to any of Grover Gardner’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not. I thought he was a great reader however.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, i thought it was important to take in the recommendations, think about how i could apply them to my situation.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, yes, yes! This update to the traditional Covey principles, focusing on tools for the digital environment, and managing the constant influx of "stuff" that can derail us from spending our time on the most valuable activities. I love the advice on how to schedule the big rocks, and not count the gravel, and what taht means using today's tools. They even took into account the potential barriers presented by many companies' security systems and firewalls. A GREAT read!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The 5 Choices?

Talking about scheduling the rocks, and ignoring the gravel

What about Kory Kogon and Adam Merrill ’s performance did you like?

Yes -- The use of the techniques to center this around five simple rules which are repeated throughout. They were very simple, clear and catchy.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

i have had a lifelong interest in how to be more effective, but find that too many approaches don't leverage the technology that we have or recognize the barriers that are presented sometimes by technology. With their focus on making technology work for you, I let out a big "YESSSSS!"

Any additional comments?

Yes, it isn't clear that there are tools that one should have access to while listening to the book. I think the preface (book should say that (if that is the case) and urge the listener to go out to the website to download the appro9priate information It references it for those who are listening on a kindle, but does not provide directions for those who are listening via audio books.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. It really digs into what makes people a success, and how to develop it in yourself and others.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Grit?

When the author turned to the topic of parenting and grit, and admitted that, since parenting is done in real time, it is difficult to figure out if what you are doing will help YOUR child develop grit.

What does Angela Duckworth bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The conviction in her voice about different aspects of developing grit. She is a very energetic and credible reader. I never felt she was reading to me, but that she was having a conversation. There were times that I spoke back to her in return, either answering a question she posed, or simply adding in my opinion or encouragement.

Any additional comments?

Great book. I loved the fact that Ms. Duckworth advised those in varying roles on how to develop grit. She spent time with each one, and that was where I gained so much from this book.

Good Refresher, But Could Cover More

I enjoyed this refresher of the original edition of Flawless Consulting. Mr. Block reiterates some of the good advice for having authenticity as a consulting and building relationships with integrity. I did, however, want a little more than what was included in the audio version because I found the original edition so helpful, for example -- overcoming resistance, dealing with potential objections, and engaging with senior executives. It was definitely a good return on the time invested -- it was very valuable, but I think I could have used the unabridged version on audio!

Good Tips For Leveraging Today's Technology

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 07-30-09

Mr. Gleeson covers some tried and true approaches, and isn't afraid to mention the other authors whose work is consistent with his perspective. I like this, and I like his references to those similarities. What I like most, however, is the fact that he as updated his recommendations with approaches that describe how today's technologies -- e.g., PDA's, PIMs, web based tools -- can be used to help you be more effective. He has a chapter focused on how not to be overwhelmed by email! And another on using electronic task lists and journals. I have read many many books on prioritizing and organizing work so that I can be more effective, but this is the first one that has really talked about how to use the technology to help, and it doesn't require that you buy a tool developed by them.

The book is well organized and comprehensive. Mr. Gleeson provides easy to follow lists of instructions for how to implement the suggestions. There is also a very short executive summary of the book, and an overview of each chapter to describe what will discussed.

One point that I found slightly irritating -- the author starts out pumping his service, and descriptions of he work they have done with companies are peppered unnecessarily throughout the book.

Overall -- good book, good tips, love the technology focus!

Well Researched and Captivating

This is a well researched and captivating read. Mr. Tobin really pulled together a host of information about the individual justices, their relationships with each other, key historical rulings, and the feeder system that allowed them to happen. The language is easy for the layperson to understand, and provides a host of insight into the political workings of the Bush administration. Ought to be required reading for political science majors, or those interested in politics!

John Maxwell is a leadership guru whose rules provide great advice every time. This book is consistent with his other books, and shows why Maxwell is the sage that he is. I especially like the rule to say something positive about people whenever you can.
