GRIPPING STORY!
Revisado: 08-26-24
I have always been fascinated as to how the witch trials came about in Salem. I've been to Salem many times and have stared at the 17th century houses for hours. Kathleen Kent's gripping narrative provides insight as to the atmosphere and stark reality of life in 1691-92. I believe her research has been meticulous and careful and provides historical verisimilitude without overwhelming or bogging down the narrative. She breathes life into each and every character and the horrific details of what it was like in the Salem jail will make your blood run cold. Mare Winningham's narration is spot on and perfect for the story. She brings each character to life with the most subtle nuance in her reading of the story. I loved this book! And I am so glad it came across my Pinterest feed so that I could take a look at it here on Audible.

Beautiful story!
Revisado: 06-22-22
I just finished listening to HONEY FROM THE LION over a two night period. Could not stop listening to this gripping, well-written, wonderful, exciting, and heart tugging story. It is by far the BEST M/M romance i've ever read or listened to. The characters are well-defined, believable, and the time travel perfectly presented. There is action, romance, humor, sadness, and just enough sex to keep the story moving along without ever getting bogged down. The metaphor of the red fox is perfect. I highly recommend this story to anyone that likes a strong love story with perfectly timed twists and turns. I am ready to listen to Ms. North's book HEROES FOR GHOSTS. A final note: the reader of this story is perfect. He captures the nuances of each character without over-doing the voices.

But when Will encounters a face from the past in a disreputable nightclub, Kim turns up, as shifty, unreliable, and irresistible as ever. And before Will knows it, he's been dragged back into Kim's shadowy world of secrets, criminal conspiracies, and underhand dealings.

LOVE this series!
Revisado: 04-11-22
I bought the first three books in Charles's newest series. I have to say that all three books are fantastic! Well written, fast-paced, very likable and believable characters, and a time period that one can easily relate to. The action is nonstop and the resolution is perfect. I actually stayed up until 5 am in order to finish listening to the third book. K. J. Charles has come a long way with her writing. 90% gripping story 10% m/m romance/graphic sexual scenes. This is a good balance. Cornell Collins has to be one of the best, if not THE best, reader for these stories. His voice is perfect. He does a range of voices and accents and all of them done masterfully. I will eagerly await the fourth installment in this series.

Historia
Will Darling came back from the Great War with a few scars, a lot of medals, and no idea what to do next. Inheriting his uncle's chaotic secondhand bookshop is a blessing...until strange visitors start making threats. First a criminal gang, then the War Office, both telling Will to give them the information they want, or else. Will has no idea what that information is, and nobody to turn to, until Kim Secretan - charming, cultured, oddly attractive - steps in to offer help. As Kim and Will try to find answers and outrun trouble, mutual desire grows along with the danger.

GREAT STORY!
Revisado: 04-06-22
I have listened to a number of books written by K. J. Charles. Of them all, this is, by far, the best of the lot. The story is fast-paced, doesn't get bogged down into too many graphic sex scenes, and the characters are truly likable, especially Will. I have gone on and bought the next two books in the series in anticipation that they will be just as good. Cornell Collins's narration is pitch perfect. He brings each character into sharp focus and his voice somehow matches the tone and time period of the story. I highly recommend this book to any listener who has a penchant for sympathetic characters and a good mystery.

Perfect Reader for this series!
Revisado: 01-26-22
I have always loved stories (fiction and nonfiction) set during WWII. FOYLE'S WAR is a favorite BBC series. Now I can add DI Jago to that group as well. The stories are well written, slow to build, detailed in the minutiae of daily life in London during the Blitz, the characters are likable and believable, and most of all Simon Mattacks is there perfect reader for this series. His voice somehow fits the period and the characters and brings them to life vividly. The stories are gripping and never over-the-top in drama or unrealistic details. Everything about this series I love. I have listened to the first two books in the series and am about to start the third. I will go on to buy the next three in the series. I love them that much. Kudos to both the writer and the reader!

Historia
Victorian London is a cesspool of crime, and Scotland Yard has only 12 detectives - known as “The Murder Squad” - to investigate thousands of murders every month. Created after the Metropolitan Police’s spectacular failure to capture Jack the Ripper, The Murder Squad suffers rampant public contempt. They have failed their citizens. When Walter Day, the squad’s newest hire, is assigned the case of the murdered detective, he finds a strange ally in the Yard’s first forensic pathologist, Dr. Bernard Kingsley.

Loved the story!
Revisado: 11-01-20
I really did love this story and the characters. As other listeners have noted the narrator is outstanding! The naturalistic dialogue was spot on. The only weakness in the story for me was the main character, Walter Day and his wife, Claire. They were bland, too naive, too polite, and just not as well developed as all the other characters in the story. I will be downloading the other books in this series by Alex Grecian. They are perfect listening for the long, solitary hours I spend in the studio late at night.

London, 1882. Alec Lonsdale, a young reporter on the Pall Mall Gazette, is working on a story about a fatal house fire. But the postmortem on the victim produces shocking results: Patrick Donovan's death was no accident. But why would someone murder a humble shop assistant and steal part of his brain? When a second body is discovered, its throat cut, and then a third, Lonsdale and his spirited female colleague, Hulda Friederichs, begin to uncover evidence of a conspiracy that reaches to the highest echelons of Victorian society.

Revisado: 08-08-20
I am now a fan of Simon Beaufort's books and Johnathan Keeble narrating them! A gripping, gritting, suspenseful story read beautifully by Jonathan Keeble. The plot twists were believable and suspenseful. I will keep watching for more books by Beaufort and hope that Jonathan Keeble is the narrator.

FANTASTIC NARRATIVE!
Revisado: 04-23-20
As a writer I am in awe as to the voluminous amount of research that went into this project. I have been a huge Sherlock Holmes fan for more than 50 years and this book provides every tiny bit of minute detail about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle as well as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. The myriad pieces of the puzzle that gives the most complete picture as to how the various sub rights were handled is mind boggling to say the least. I have also ordered the print copy of this book so that I can reread the text more slowly and ponder all the connections and threads that run through the narrative. Shaun Grindell has been a favorite reader ever since I listened to him read the Hamish Macbeth cozy murder mysteries. He does a very good job with the intricacies of the text. I am so glad I downloaded this audiobook!

GREAT MYSTERY!
Revisado: 03-19-20
I have been a huge Agatha Christie fan fro many years but somehow missed reading this particular mystery. It's a GREAT mystery! Beautifully written and well plotted with enough twists and turns to satisfy any mystery buff. However, it was Hugh Fraser's reading of this mystery that made it spring to life. I have listened to audiobooks for the past 45+ years and without doubt he is THE BEST reader you will ever listen to. Each character's voice is precisely perfect to the character. He brings each one to life in full technicolor and energy. My only complaint (wink) is that it was way too short. I wish the story could have gone no for a few more hours. But, that's just me being greedy for more Christie and Fraser.
