Historia
Elise Sontag is a typical Iowa 14-year-old in 1943 - aware of the war but distanced from its reach. Then her father, a legal US resident for nearly two decades, is suddenly arrested on suspicion of being a Nazi sympathizer. The family is sent to an internment camp in Texas, where behind the armed guards and barbed wire, Elise feels stripped of everything beloved and familiar, including her own identity. The only thing that makes the camp bearable is meeting fellow internee Mariko Inoue, a Japanese-American teen from Los Angeles.

A Must Read
Revisado: 06-03-24
The book cover description drew me in. my mother was a nurse to Dementia/Alzheimer's patients. I don't normally read about the illness but having it be a historical fictional book drew me in.
I loved the flow of the story and how the author was able to captivate the reader from very early on. The developing stories of girls growing up in a scary time of world history I knew was real. Each chapter pulled me even closer.
if you're an avid reader of such pieces, this is a read for you. Imagining what our own country did is being similar to across the oceans is hard to fathom but we know it happened, without as much severity. None the less, it's the US part of the war too.
I do wish there was a little more tie up with with Elise, Pamela, Teddy, and Agnes. I will not take points off for that. The author wrapped it up nicely.

It was a lovely set up and story, however clearly calculating. The ending was weak but pleasant, characters believable.

Cannot put it down
Revisado: 08-19-23
I couldn't wait to get into this. I love TI Lowes craft. I had no expectations, I hadn't even read the description. The narrator was 100% of this book. I felt as though I was listening to someone tell me the story, not a book. The story was full of life. Sonny's story got me from the beginning and as she fully developed, I wanted to befriend her. The gumption of her continually heading over to Indigo Isle had me shaking my head but had she not gone, the book would have been 4 boring chapters. The evolution of their time together, the ebb and flow of she and Hudsons relationship was rather beautiful, especially in a society of " swipe right apps".
I got rather emotional about as the family blend was happening and the wonderful humor and care that suddenly appeared, like a hug from the author, letting us know she wasn't done with Sonny's character.
I'm thankful for the epiloge to finish the high notes of the story.
I'd also like to note that the supporting characters of Lyrica and V are surprisingly fun but I could have used more. The same with Sonny's fam....I quickly became attached.
Overall, I'm sad it ended. I wasn't done. A well written novel.

I want a cuppa
Revisado: 07-15-23
I stumbled upon this book a few days ago. I prefer books that are narrated by a Brit and it takes place in the UK ( double win). I have visited England/Scotland and though I haven't been everywhere there, I understand it so in a book like this, I understand it and can truly envision me walking thru the village. The story is cute and real and warm and a bit Hallmark, but I LIKE THAT!!! I have encountered each of these characters somewhere in my life and even my daughter's name appeared.....it was meant for me to listen. Though BFF Karen could have made more appearances. I couldn't stop listening. I wanted to know what was going to happen with Stevie. the addition of Betty made my heart glow❤️. Little did I know, this was a series....there's more! If you're reading this unsure .....know there's a good bit of twist, adornment, silly, clever, and romance. I really enjoyed this book. looking forward to finishing the series.

I admit, the title had my attention before I started it. I very quickly became part of the scenery wanting more of the story. Good quick read and all a smile at the end of the book. A happy cheesy ending. I also enjoyed the narration. It was full of energy and vibrancy.

Hero. Soldier. Spy. Leader. Her name is Nancy Wake. A riveting, richly imagined historical thriller, Liberation brings to life one of World War II's most fascinating unsung heroines in all her fierce power and complexity. This is the story of one of the one of the war's most decorated women, told like never before.

Lovely story only to find out it's true. Loved the narration and depth that was given. Narration is key and I found myself almost repeating her accent. I love historical novels and this was a well written book. I will read more from this author.

Wowza. a cliff hanger from page 1. a great development of story, character details and emotional touch. I didn't want to stop listening. I lived along side these characters as I listwned and embodied them. I liked the style of writing andnth narration was amazing. I spent some time in Britain and it was great to hear again..

Historia
August 1939: London is dismal under the weight of impending war with Germany as Hitler’s forces continue to sweep across Europe. Into this uncertain maelstrom steps Grace Bennett, young and ready for a fresh start in the bustling city streets she’s always dreamed of - and miles away from her troubled past in the countryside. With aspirations of working at a department store, Grace never imagined she’d wind up employed at Primrose Hill, an offbeat bookshop nestled in the heart of the city - after all, she’s never been much of a reader.

Historia
Nobody knows the people of Wooster, Ohio, better than switchboard operator Vivian Dalton, and she’d be the first to tell you that. She calls it intuition. Her teenage daughter, Charlotte, calls it eavesdropping. Vivian and the other women who work at Bell on East Liberty Street connect lines and lives. They aren’t supposed to listen in on conversations, but they do, and they all have opinions on what they hear - especially Vivian.
