Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Not The Best
Revisado: 04-18-25
To be honest I don’t really understand the hype for this one. It was an ok story, but rather dull. I held on for the twist hoping it would be worth it, but there was no redemption.

Historia
Emerson, Georgia, and Marley have been best friends ever since they met at a weight-loss camp as teens. When Emerson tragically passes away, she leaves one final wish for her best friends: to conquer the fears they still carry as adults. For Marley, it's coming to terms with the survivor's guilt she's carried around since her twin sister's death, which has left her blind to the real chance for romance in her life. For Georgia, it's learning to stop trying to live up to her mother's and brother's ridiculous standards and learning to accept love.

Hypocritical
Revisado: 01-14-25
The characters in this book are extremely self centered and shallow all while preaching about how unfairly judged they are for being fat. As someone who has struggled with being overweight, the stigma against us just isn't as prominent as this author would lead us to believe. Yes, just as with any group of people there are jerks, but the women in this book consistently meet people who openly tear them down and that just isn't realistic. Also why is it ok for them to be so mean and judgmental of skinny women? Some women have just as hard of a time trying to put weight on and would love to have some curves. The self hate is also appalling...
Although the book was well written and the storyline has some real potential, the author had a huge miss here. I really struggled to finish this book (turned the speed up to 2.0 for the last two hours just to be done), and if it weren't for the narrators being so good I don't think I would have made further than chapter 10.

Now what I expected
Revisado: 09-30-24
This book started out strong and captured my interest pretty quickly, however, a little more than halfway through I started to question my interest. The story is less about four friends and focuses instead on only two of the characters, which disappointed me.
Although I was pretty absorbed in one of the characters struggles and history, but eventually felt the book kept cycling through more and more negative events, how many tragedies can happen to a person before it becomes a little boring?
I really, really, wanted to love this book, but in the end I turned up the speed to 1.8 just to get it over with. I still wanted to know how it ended since I had invested so much time, but I did not enjoy it as much as I had hoped.
I love long reads, and even mundane descriptions of characters living their daily lives, but this book really could have been half the length.

Historia
“I can allow myself to write the truth; all the people for whom I have lied throughout my life are dead....” writes the heroine of Marlen Haushofer’s The Wall, a quite ordinary, unnamed middle-aged woman who awakens to find she is the last living human being. Surmising her solitude is the result of a military experiment gone awry, she begins the terrifying work of not only survival but also self-renewal.

Beautifully Sad
Revisado: 07-31-23
This book is a great read for those who want to get lost in the daily life a woman left to survive alone with her few animal companions. However, be prepared to cry.. the loss that the characters experience is profound. This book is wonderfully written, although some have claimed the diary style of the human character is boring, I find is very interesting. This book takes you into solitude itself, without the animal companions the live of the human character would have no doubt been cut short. Give this book a chance!
Tip: the narrator does talk a little slowly, probably to emphasize the depressive theme, I bumped it up to 1.4 and found it to be a better pace.

Revisado: 07-07-23
I LOVED this book!! I could not stop listening. Such emotion, I really got attached to Blythe and wished so badly for her to to have a happy ending. I am not sure why so many people commented on the confusion of who was talking in each chapter, to me it was obvious when it was Blythe, her mother, or her mothers mother. I heard this may become a mini series, let’s just hope they do it justice.
I am a big fan of Ashley, I just get lost in her perfectly descriptive writing.
I can’t wait for her to release another book!

On Harlow Street, the well-to-do neighborhood couples and their children gather for a catered barbecue as the summer winds down; drinks continue late into the night. Everything is fabulous until the picture-perfect hostess explodes in fury because her son disobeys her. Everyone at the party hears her exquisite veneer crack—loud and clear. Before long, that same young boy falls from his bedside window in the middle of the night. And then, his mother can only sit by her son’s hospital bed, where she refuses to speak to anyone, and his life hangs in the balance.

Revisado: 07-06-23
This book was incredible I was sad when it ended. The writing style of the author puts you right there with the characters. The development of the story is wonderful, I love the mix of present and flash backs. I wish there were more books to listen to by this author.

This is exactly what I expect from a domestic thriller. Sure it is a bit unrealistic, but still completely enjoyable. I love the drama, the character development, and the pace. Perfect summer read!

Historia
Fresh out of rehab, Mallory Quinn takes a job as a babysitter for Ted and Caroline Maxwell. She is to look after their five-year-old son, Teddy. Mallory immediately loves it. She has her own living space, goes out for nightly runs, and has the stability she craves. And she sincerely bonds with Teddy, a sweet, shy boy who is never without his sketchbook and pencil. His drawings are the usual fare: trees, rabbits, balloons. But one day, he draws something different: a man in a forest, dragging a woman’s lifeless body.

Loved it
Revisado: 05-22-23
This was my first dabble in a supernatural thriller, I was a bit hesitant at first but I am so glad I gave it a chance! The storyline was so interesting and the supernatural bits were very well placed, not overdone. The writing is fantastic as well, you become attached to the characters because they actually have depth. Overall I think this book is well balanced and very entertaining.

Historia
Kat Grant and Alice Campbell have a friendship forged in shared confidences and long lunches lubricated by expensive wine. Though they're very different women - the artsy socialite and the struggling suburbanite - they're each other's rocks. But even rocks crumble under pressure. Like when Kat's financier husband, Howard, plunges to his death from the second-floor balcony of their South Florida mansion. Howard was a jerk, a drunk, a bully, and, police say, a murder victim. The questions begin piling up.

Historia
Two victims of the infamous Cleveland kidnapper share the story of their abductions, their decade in captivity, and their final, dramatic rescue. On May 6, 2013, Amanda Berry made headlines around the world when she fled a Cleveland area home and called 911, saying: “Help me, I’m Amanda Berry...I’ve been kidnapped, and I’ve been missing for 10 years". A horrifying story rapidly unfolded. Ariel Castro, a local school bus driver, had separately lured Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight to his home, where he kept them chained in the basement.
