Historia
Comprised of vignettes from his own experiences of growing up in Central Florida, this native Floridian reveals "Old Florida" through its land, its people and their relationship to the times. This is not the Florida of the travel brochures or the concrete and glass glitz of the developers but rather the real Florida as known only by those who are proud to call themselves (or declare themselves) native Floridians. Laugh and cry with the exploits of these tough and proud people.

Started off well
Revisado: 08-29-22
As a fifth-generation Floridian, I really looked forward to listening to this. It started off well, and I especially enjoyed reminiscing with him about the orange groves, Silver Springs, and the amazing ecology of Florida. It was interesting learning about various businesses and how they got their start in Florida, as well.
Unfortunately he veered off into rants about gun rights (I’m not anti-guns, it just felt angry and political and out-of-place) and the Confederacy, how stupid it is to remove Confederate statues from the public square, and how “all of us from Old Florida” love the Confederate flag. Please, sir, do not lump all of us longtime Floridians in with your political viewpoints. Just because you feel that way does not mean we all do, believe me.
Perhaps a separate book on politics could’ve been written so we all could have kept hearing the enjoyable stories. I stopped listening when he kept going on about these issues.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

A new favorite for me
Revisado: 12-06-18
The story of Kya was so well-told that I looked forward to my 45-minute commute each day so I could hear more. Owens did an excellent job of weaving past and present, bringing them closer and closer to each other with each passing chapter, until they meld into the ecstasy of secrets revealed and ....well, I won’t say anymore so I don’t give anything away. I’ll just say I enjoyed it thoroughly. Thank you, Delia.

Historia
No one other than Warren Zanes, rocker and writer and friend, could author a book about Tom Petty that is as honest and evocative of Petty's music and the remarkable rock and roll history he and his band helped to write. Born in Gainesville, Florida, with more than a little hillbilly in his blood, Tom Petty was a Southern shit kicker, a kid without a whole lot of promise. Rock and roll made it otherwise.

A highly recommended biography
Revisado: 10-19-17
Warren Zanes did a fantastic job writing the life story of the great Tom Petty. I learned things I had never heard before, and can really see Mr. Petty as a human being as well as an artist now. I also enjoyed Zane’s vocal performance of this audiobook. Well done in every way, in my opinion.
Rest in peace, Tom.

Terrible narration
Revisado: 10-12-16
I couldn't get through this one. The author should have stepped away from the mic and allow a professional to narrate, so I could have enjoyed her story. She continually sounds as if she's without breath and about to faint. Very, very distracting.

Historia
From Pasadena to Cambridge to New York, Washington, D.C., India, Ceylon, Paris, Marseilles, Santa Barbara, and Maine, Bob Spitz re-creates an extraordinary life. He takes us beyond the image of Julia as the tall, eccentric woman with a funny voice who taught America how to cook, to establish her as a genuine rebel and beloved icon, a woman who redefined herself in middle age, helped to change the role of women in America, set the standard for how to create a public personality in the modern media world.

Fascinating look inside the life and loves of Julia Child
Revisado: 09-16-16
I've always loved Julia Child, and admired all her accomplishments. This book was fun to read, made me laugh out loud as well as cry at the end. Great read. Narration was perfect and enhanced the story, didn't detract from it, happily.

Historia
The island is nearly deserted, haunting, beautiful. Across a slip of ocean lies South Carolina. But for the handful of families on Yamacraw island, America is a world away. For years the people here lived proudly from the sea, but now its waters are not safe. Waste from industry threatens their very existence – unless, somehow, they can learn a new life. But they will learn nothing without someone to teach them, and their school has no teacher.

The pure joy of love of learning + diversity
Revisado: 05-21-16
This book has made me miss teaching terribly! It is so well-written… of course, as it was written by the great Pat Conroy. The excellent narration by Miller helped transport me to the island into the school with the children and their young teacher, "Conrack." What an excellent reminder that we are all brothers and sisters, and we all can live and learn in harmony if we let go of the old ways of thinking that exist across the United States, even still. Maybe continue the pursuit of loving and accepting other.

Historia
The one thing you can depend on in Cold Sassy, Georgia, is that word gets around fast. If the preacher's wife's petticoat shows, the ladies will make the talk last a week. But on July 5, 1906, things take a scandalous turn. That is the day E. Rucker Blakeslee, proprietor of the general store and barely three weeks a widower, elopes with Miss Love Simpson, a woman half his age and, worse yet, a Yankee!

Wonderful storytelling
Revisado: 05-11-15
I loved this book when I read it several years ago, and listening to it with this narrator was an even bigger pleasure. His voice is perfect, and the story came to life. You laugh often, and you might even cry a few times. I was so sad when it was over. Check it out!
