Historia
The Other End of the Leash shares a revolutionary new perspective on our relationship with dogs, focusing on our behavior in comparison with that of dogs. An applied animal behaviorist and dog trainer with more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Patricia McConnell looks at humans as just another interesting species, and muses about why we behave the way we do around our dogs, how dogs might interpret our behavior, and how to interact with our dogs in ways that bring out the best in them.

Satisfying read for dog owners and cognitive scientists
Revisado: 06-19-23
I found this book after becoming a dog owner but even someone who doesn’t own a dog would be interested in her observations.
As a fan of Ed Yong, Oliver Sacks and other observers of nature and the human condition I appreciate her mixture of compassion and insight.

Historia
The Earth teems with sights and textures, sounds and vibrations, smells and tastes, electric and magnetic fields. But every kind of animal, including humans, is enclosed within its own unique sensory bubble, perceiving but a tiny sliver of our immense world. In An Immense World, Ed Yong coaxes us beyond the confines of our own senses, allowing us to perceive the skeins of scent, waves of electromagnetism, and pulses of pressure that surround us.

A beautiful glimpse into a larger world
Revisado: 01-02-23
Ed Yong is my favorite living author and his current topic did not disappoint. I only wish he had been able to dive even deeper into the subject at hand. There are amazing things happening around us and Ed directs our gaze to better appreciate the world we live in.

Historia
Physician and biochemist Cate Shanahan, MD, examined diets around the world known to help people live longer, healthier lives - diets like the Mediterranean, Okinawa, and Blue Zone - and identified the four common nutritional habits, developed over millennia, that unfailingly produce strong, healthy, intelligent children and active, vital elders generation after generation. These four nutritional strategies - fresh food, fermented and sprouted foods, meat cooked on the bone, and organ meats - form the basis of the Human Diet.

Excellent book. Great information!
Revisado: 02-03-21
I read this book on the advice of my nutritional therapist. Some of the early chapters of the book were surprising to me, and I wasn’t sure yet what I’d gotten myself into, but by the time I finished I felt that I had gained really valuable insight into physiology and human health.
I started this book by listening to the audiobook and then I bought a physical version to read too. I found that having the physical version in the beginning helped for some of the images and tables, but that I didn’t mind listening to the audio version of later chapters.
Sometimes I found the tone of voice of the narrator to be a bit too “know-it-all” and lent that tone to sections of the book - which might be discouraging to some listeners. I powered through and found this book to be a very rewarding read!
I hope to read more by this author again.
