I haven't read Hemlock Falls, but I might after listening to these books. The plot was good and the characters were likeable. All in all it was a good book. However, the narrator was horrible. He made the women's voices sound whiny and some of the men's voices were irritating. Another thing I did not like was how often the good Dr. stated how lovely his wife was. I think it's great that he still finds her attractive but it was unnecessary to the story and unrealistic. Like I said, it's a good book. Worth a credit and time.

Horrible
Revisado: 12-14-12
This was a waste of a credit. I did not get beyond chapter 3. Half of the dialogue is about brand names. If you want to describe someone's outfit, tell me the cut or length of the dress. I don't have to know that it's Chanel. The writing was cheesy and unrealistic. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.

The mystery was pretty solid, Betsy did her usual thing of investigating. The characters are well written and established. The usual characters are there plus a couple of new ones.
This book was a bit of a departure from the usual quaint and affluent town of Excelsior. Betsy investigates the death of two homeless women. In order to do so she takes a homeless women on to help investigate. In doing so, Monica Ferris highlighted the plight of the homeless. I was a bit disappointed that Betsy didn't offer the homeless woman at least part time employment. If you are going to highlight a problem as big as homelessness, you might as well become part of the solution. Also, I find it unbelievable that Betsy is so cozy with her adversary Mike Malloy. He appears lazy in this novel as Betsy does all of the work and reports to him. It's an ok book. It passed the time. I'll probably read the next one when I'm between books and have nothing else to read.

This book seemed like a good idea. The plot was good and the characters likeable. But, listening to it was like going on a nature hike on a nice day and getting lost. You don't mind the longer walk because it's nice outside but deep down you're ready for it to be over. I enjoyed the book but it took the long way to get to the end. All in all it was ok.

Historia
Students are spooked at the San Francisco School of Fine Arts, and Lily is called in to search for possible paranormal activity. In return she's been promised a trunkful of Victorian-era clothes recently discovered in a school storage closet. But Lily finds something else: the body of a wealthy patron of the school. In between running the store and seeing her new boyfriend, Max - a "mythbuster" who is uncomfortable with her witchcraft - she uses her sleuthing skills to try to solve the murder. Soon Lily senses something from the school's vintage clothes, but it's not the smell of mothballs - it's the unmistakable aura of evil intent.

Pretty good
Revisado: 11-29-12
If I could give this 3 and a half stars I would. It is a pleasant story with solidly developed characters. The characters are the reason I liked this book. The plot was good and the story flowed nicely. All in all it's a solid paranormal story. I can't give it more than 3 and a half stars because the story lacks suspense. It is worth the credit.

A Proper Mystery
Revisado: 11-22-12
I don't usually listen to British cozy mysteries. I tried this one because it was recommended to me. It was a pleasant surprise. The story was slow, but, the plot and characters were intriguing. The two lead characters fit together like an old married couple. Jude has a mellow and relaxed attitude, while Carole is uptight and conservative. For these two new friends opposites attract and they bring out the best in each other.
There are enough twist and turns in the mystery to keep you interested and guessing. The one thing I do not like about this mystery is it's narrator. The two lead characters are female yet the narrator is male. Surely there are some British actresses who could have given their voice to this book. All in all it's a good mystery.
