Historia
Henry "Monty" Montague doesn't care that his roguish passions are far from suitable for the gentleman he was born to be. But as Monty embarks on his grand tour of Europe, his quests for pleasure and vice are in danger of coming to an end. Not only does his father expect him to take over the family's estate upon his return, but Monty is also nursing an impossible crush on his best friend and traveling companion, Percy.

Exquisite and Gorgeous and Perfect, Darling
Revisado: 01-29-19
I am almost too overwhelmed to say how much I loved everything about this book. It was so beyond any expectation I may have had going into it. It is so well written...tugging both laughter and tears in equal measures. The characters are beautifully developed. The story is compelling and the adventure and intrigue creative and well done. Lord Henry Montague...in this book I’d previously never heard of...has become one of my favorite literary characters....right up there with David Copperfield! To say I adored this book would be so beyond an understatement. I mourn that it is finished. I need a sequel with Monty and Percy. I need a whole series of just those two lovely men. Thank you, Mackenzi Lee for your beautiful story. And thank you Christian Coulson for your outstanding narration and characterization of the complicatedly adorable, perfectly imperfect Monty. I love you all!

I could listen to Maggie Gyllenhaal every minute of the day. Her voice is expressive, beautiful, and lush. It gives me chills...in the best way. I might be in love. :)

Historia
Recipient of the 1966 Tanizaki Prize, it has been called Endo's supreme achievement" and "one of the twentieth century's finest novels". Considered controversial ever since its first publication, it tackles the thorniest religious issues of belief and faith head on. A novel of historical fiction, it is the story of a Jesuit missionary sent to seventeenth century Japan, who endured persecution that followed the defeat of the Shimabara Rebellion.

Relieved...
Revisado: 07-21-18
...that it’s over. This is a case where the film was beyond superior to the book. It is a story better served in images, rather than constant, tedious narration that repeats its theme over and over. Perhaps it’s the translation...but the word “anyhow “ is used numerous times as a bridge between thoughts. Anyhow? The writing is terrible. The title is “Silence,” is a profound reflection on the doubt of God’s presence in our lives. It might have been so in the book too if “Silence” or some form of it hadn’t been used dozens of times! Fr. Rodriguez is an insufferable character...not even interesting in his weakness. The narrator’s voice made him even more so. The final lines before the Appendix were the only profound part of the entire book and hardly worth the 7 plus hours spent to get there. Scorsese made the film because he loves the book. It’s difficult to fault him as he did turn an annoying novel into a subtlety brilliant film. See the movie. Skip the book.

Historia
Based in part on Dickens's own life, it is the story of a young man's journey from an unhappy and impoverished childhood to the discovery of his vocation as a successful novelist. Among its gloriously vivid cast of characters, he e.ncounters his tyrannical stepfather, Mr. Murdstone; his formidable aunt, Betsey Trotwood; the eternally humble yet treacherous Uriah Heep; the frivolous, enchanting Dora; and one of literature's great comic creations, the magnificently impecunious Mr. Micawber.

David Copperfield...
Revisado: 12-12-17
My favorite character in my favorite book by my favorite author. We should all aspire to the humanity of David "Trotwood" Copperfield. He is my literary measure of kindness and civility. And although the story has its share of villains...the good intentions and kindness of this epic inspires both smiles and tears. The narration of Simon Vance fashioning unique voices for each character no matter how minor...evolving those voices as the characters mature and change through years and experience is staggering in its brilliance. I bought and will re-listen to the entire Dickens library voiced by Mr. Vance. The genius of Dickens shines in all his work, but David Copperfield transcends.

Historia
Call Me by Your Name first swept across the world in 2007. It is the story of a sudden and powerful romance that blossoms between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents' cliffside mansion on the Italian Riviera. During the restless summer weeks, unrelenting but buried currents of obsession, fascination, and desire intensify their passion as they test the charged ground between them and verge toward the one thing both already fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy.

Time wasted
Revisado: 10-08-17
Not time wasted with this book, for I'm forced to admit it is poetic and well written. But the time these characters waste is infuriating. Life is not a mock up and we're not give innumerable chances to get it right. To the end they seem to not understand this and that makes their time together unnecessarily frustrating, ridiculously overwrought, tediously repressed and ultimately dissatisfying.
Armie Hammer has a beautiful voice, but there's little distinction between Elio and Oliver such that it's sometimes confusing who's speaking during their dialogues.
Much of the book is Elio's internal conversation and, for me, he is the least interesting, least self aware character in this book.
