Interesting history that ends too soon
Revisado: 12-14-03
This book traces Steve Job from his getting kicked out of Apple to his triumphant return to Apple. I wished it had dealt more with why Jobs had been forced out of Apple and I really wish it had covered some of the recent Apple developments (the new iMac, OS-X, the iPod and the iTunes store, the G5, etc). The book was written before these developments, so it's no fault of the author's, of course, but I finished The Second Coming of Steve Jobs wishing for the inside story behind these developments. I have to agree with some of the other reviewers that this book slights Jobs' contributions -- while Jobs doesn't sound like a fun guy to work with, it's hard to deny that under Jobs the last few years Apple has been the cool computer company to beat (in terms of technology and design, not market share).

Historia
It's time to ponder deep Snarkout Boys questions, such as "How do they survive so many greasy snacks?" "Why doesn't everyone get food poisoning?" "Is Dr. Ormond Sacker really a psychiatrist?" "Why did the Bongos name their son Winston?" "Why are werewolves like that?" Here you will not find the answers to these questions and many, many others. Provocative to some, stimulating to others, boring to jaded sophisticates, this is a work that must be heard - although in book form it can also be thrown with great effect.

A good sequel to the Avocado of Death
Revisado: 11-30-03
Daniel Pinkwater continues the adventures of the Snarkout Boys (from The Snarkout Boys and the Avocado of Death) in this book. It includes most of the crazy characters (and some new ones) from the last book, and has some really hilarious moments, but I gave it 4 stars since it wasn't quite as good as the Avocado of Death. The audio quality of both books isn't great since the stories were originally only recorded in format 1. If you liked Avocado, check out the Baconburg Horror, if only to find out how the world's greatest detective handles Pinkwater's favorite monster, the werewolf.

Daniel Pinkwater's The Snarkout Boys and the Avocado of Death is funny and ridiculous and a great read (listen). I love hearing Daniel Pinkwater on NPR, and he does a wonderful job reading his own book. Unfortunately, now I have this intense craving for guacamole....
