Historia
Long ago, Requiem was plagued by war and abandoned by the gods but Death saved the suffering people, giving each soul a hundred years of immortality. With that grace, he also sent two Maidens. One of Life, for healing and comfort, and one of Death, the only person in the world with the ability to kill. Generations later, the Life Maiden is missing and Princess Deyanira is nothing more than a trained weapon. A hunter. A murderer wrenched into Death's dark court to have the name of her next victim seared onto her palm.

Ambiance
Revisado: 06-26-24
Definitely disappointed with the story as I’ve been enthralled with author’s previous books. Plot took precedence over character. Pace was monotonous.. plodding and then jumping to anticlimactic conclusions. In general, I really didn’t care who won or lost. Actually would’ve been more interesting if Death had won 🤷🏻♀️. That said, her writing talent shines with world building and vibe.

Struggled to finish
Revisado: 08-11-23
Isolde, FMC, was incredibly unlikable. Her “strength” and “fierce independence” were actually just an entitled mean streak, selfish disregard of others, and impulsive cruelty. Her motivations were like being pummeled with a blunt object. I wish she would have been left to learn from her mistakes and reap what she sowed, actually growing as a person. *spoiler alert* I would’ve poisoned her, too.

Flimsy character choices to serve plot
Revisado: 07-11-23
Solid premise and decent world building, this hook has promise. Unfortunately I continued to get pulled from the story by character choices that were unrealistic, hyper reactive, and blatantly done to artificially create conflict to serve a weak plot. Despite dialogue around Raven needing to discover who she is without magic, other people, etc she failed to grow or learn AT ALL. Mystified by the abject idiocy and inconsistency of many of the characters.

Undeveloped characters, painfully whiney heroine with no backbone, twittering flat dialogue, and no character arc that showed growth of individuals or the romance.

Fools gold
Revisado: 10-27-20
The main characters really didn’t change / evolve over the course of the story. It was very difficult to invest in them and on the whole, it felt slapdash. Glimmered with a lot of promise in the premise, but ended up dissatisfied because there wasn’t authenticity or evolution. Not much to root for except arriving at the last page. A longtime fan of CC’s work (and I admire any completed work for the sheer effort of finishing), so I will certainly read more of her writings.. but maybe not this series.
