Excellent story, narration to match!
Revisado: 07-20-22
I'll state from the beginning that my biggest gripe with this book and audiobook is that it was clearly meant as a book 1, and there has been no book 2.
With that out of the way, I'm happy to say the story is a unique twist on some familiar characters. Those characters were very interesting and well developed and grew throughout the book. The narrators did a wonderful job of bringing those characters to life and connecting them to the readers and the storyline. I have over 500 books in my library and the mark of a truly great one is do I plan to go back and listen to the story again. This one is a resounding yes! Now I just need Mr. Hayes to utilize his copious "free time" (kidding!) to go and write book 2 for me (not kidding!)!

Historia
If your funny older sister were the former deputy chief of staff to President Barack Obama, her behind-the-scenes political memoir would sound something like this. Who Thought This Was a Good Idea? is an intimate and admiring portrait of a president, a candid book of advice for young women, and a promising debut from a savvy political star.

While some of the early recordings occasionally suffered from poor technique, by this time the recordings are good. Butcher continues to offer fresh plot twists and surprises while Marsters had the voices down cold. Bravo!

Amazing story, good performance.
Revisado: 04-12-15
I am really enjoying this series. I found my way here via The Dresden Files, and while a different flavor, same genre and very enjoyable. The narrator is quite skilled and does a good job, though I world say female voices are not his greatest strength. He differentiates them well and you can usually tell who is speaking without needing to be told, but the women sound very much like a man, trying to sounds like a woman. All in all, if you have found your way here, I would definitely suggest you give it a try. While I am no diviner, I would wager you'll enjoy and rewritten for more.

Great book, fair narrator
Revisado: 01-29-10
The book, like any Mead production, is excellent. The characters are intriguing and the story line and premise are truly unique. I think the narrator is okay, though time and time again I can't help but think the narrator is reading in a different emphasis or "feel" than the author intended. The voices she uses are hit or miss as far as conveying the author's intent for the characters. Having said that, she still does a fair job and the novel is definitely worth the time.

Writing still good, narrators MUCH better
Revisado: 09-23-09
I enjoyed the first three books on audiobook, but I will admit I was annoyed by the narrator. Mack was portrayed as just a little too whiny for me to love the audio book. But the writing was excellent, the plot twists were nice, the characters, intriguing. In the latest edition of Moning's Fever series, someone made the decision not only to change the female narrator, but to add a male narrator for the male voices. I was delightedly surprised. Suddenly, the characters took on new life. They were simply spell binding. While all of the books are good, this one stands out in my mind and I have to think at least part of that was the excellent narration. Bravo to Ms. Ross and Mr. Gigante and of course, bravo to Ms. Moning. Thank you for enjoyable "read."

Captivating in it's entirety...
Revisado: 06-11-09
This was flat-out a wonderful book. The characters, plot lines, and details were simply wonderful. The narrator, and apparently writer as well, gave a life to this story which, in retrospect, seems unearthly and unreal. I simply can't stop thinking about the story and I dearly hope he considers a sequel. Thank you for this experience.
