Historia
Born in Leipzig, Germany, into a Jewish family, Eddie Jaku was a teenager when his world was turned upside-down. On November 9, 1938, during the terrifying violence of Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass, Eddie was beaten by SS thugs, arrested, and sent to a concentration camp with thousands of other Jews across Germany. Every day of the next seven years of his life, Eddie faced unimaginable horrors in Buchenwald, Auschwitz, and finally on a forced death march during the Third Reich’s final days.

Kindness…what a simple concept
Revisado: 02-01-23
How can you write a review for a book so profound. Anything that I can muster up seems as though it is not enough.
Every now and again, you need a reminder that all is not gray. Your life can be beautiful if you look at it through the right lens, and there is always time to be a good person.
Thank you, my friend Eddie.

Historia
Ever since she was a child, every aspect of Julia Haart’s life—what she wore, what she ate, what she thought—was controlled by the dictates of ultra-Orthodox Judaism. At 19, after a lifetime spent caring for her seven younger siblings, she was married off to a man she barely knew. For the next 23 years, her marriage would rule her life. Eventually, when Haart’s younger daughter, Miriam, started to innocently question why she wasn’t allowed to sing in public, run in shorts, or ride a bike without being covered from neck to knee, Haart reached a breaking point.

Revisado: 02-02-22
I never wanted this book to end.
The story itself was just as I hoped it would be. Interesting and full of fun stories about this funny fella that I grew up watching, but having Mel Brooks read the book to me was an absolute treat.
This is not only a must read, more importantly, it’s a must listen!

Historia
In short, this is Pablo Escobar's story in the words of one of his closest confidants, his brother Roberto. It's all here - the brutal violence inside the world of the drug cartel, dealing with American drug forces and the CIA, the problems the Escobars faced when going up against the Colombian mafia, even Pablo's moments of kindness and compassion. As Roberto points out, although many people view Escobar as a monster, thousands still visit his grave every year to mourn him, and revere him as a savior.

Good…ish
Revisado: 12-16-21
I was really excited about this book, and I did like the majority of it. But, I do feel like Escobar was fishing for sympathy for his brother and he, almost like they were unfairly persecuted. But, I did learn a lot from it and it held my attention.

Historia
Inside a century-old row house in Brooklyn, renegade Sister Evelyn and her fellow nuns preside over a safe haven for the abused and abandoned. Gruff and indomitable on the surface, warm and wry underneath, little daunts Evelyn, until she receives word that Mercy House will be investigated by Bishop Hawkins, a man with whom she shares a dark history. In order to protect everything they’ve built, the nuns must conceal many of their methods, which are forbidden by the Catholic Church.

The way it should be…
Revisado: 10-04-21
I think so many people turn away from religion because at its root, it makes sense but so much corruption and doctrine get in the way.
How refreshing to read about a group of women, who most would overlook, did what they had to do to support other women. Keep them safe, lift them up and help them fly.

Historia
Hi! I’m Seth! I was asked to describe my audiobook, Yearbook for websites and shit like that, so...here it goes!!! Yearbook is a collection of true stories that I desperately hope are just funny at worst, and life-changingly amazing at best. (I understand that it’s likely the former, which is a fancy “book” way of saying “the first one.”) I talk about my grandparents, doing stand-up comedy as a teenager, bar mitzvahs, and Jewish summer camp, and tell way more stories about doing drugs than my mother would like.

Headline- Seth Rogen not a douche. He’s as awesome as he seems!
Revisado: 08-18-21
Whoever has any doubt about this book can knock it off right now. This book was incredible. Of course it would be! From heartwarming stories of his thieving grandparents, the story behind The Interview, to a crazy run in with Tom Cruise and a story of Jew-ish summer camp.
This collection of essays is filled with all the reasons why we love Seth Rogen, his talent and just the good person he is. It always sucks when there is someone you think is awesome and then you read their book only to find out they are a douche. I’m happy to say that Seth Rogen is not a douche and just as awesome as you think he is.
Grab a beer or a joint, hang out on your patio and get ready to enjoy a fantastic book!

Historia
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

Historia
More than 15 years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale, the theocratic regime of the Republic of Gilead maintains its grip on power, but there are signs it is beginning to rot from within. At this crucial moment, the lives of three radically different women converge, with potentially explosive results. Two have grown up as part of the first generation to come of age in the new order. The testimonies of these two young women are joined by a third: Aunt Lydia. Her complex past and uncertain future unfold in surprising and pivotal ways.

I just finished The Testaments and am sorry to have left its world of characters.
This was such a satisfying read and an absolutely must for any Atwood or Handmaid’s Tale lovers.
It was almost as though Atwood reached inside my head and pulled out all my hopes for the resolution of Gilead and put them to paper in a way that only she can.

Historia
As a young child in North Carolina, Jacob Tobia wasn't the wrong gender, they just had too much of the stuff. Barbies? Yes. Playing with bugs? Absolutely. Getting muddy? Please. Princess dresses? You betcha. Jacob wanted it all, but because they were "a boy", they were told they could only have the masculine half. Acting feminine labelled them "a sissy" and brought social isolation. It took Jacob years to discover that being "a sissy" isn't something to be ashamed of. It's a source of pride.

This Cis Loves Sissy
Revisado: 04-17-19
This book should be mandatory reading for all parents with young children navigating this modern world. Jacob isn’t the only person who has had to figure out where they fit, but the experience that this person was gracious enough to share could help families and individuals in the same boat.
The more people talk about and celebrate what makes each individual person in the world unique, the more comfortable each person will be to live the life that they were meant to out loud.
Thank you Jacob!

Historia
Denis Leary refutes the current highly partisan Right Wing Nutjob versus Left Wing Snowflake approach to American politics - where you're either one or the other, with no gray areas in between. Leading a new protest movement called Gray Lives Matter, he takes equal opportunity aim at the screaming heads we see arguing every night on CNN (the Clinton News Network) and Fox's Fair and Balanced Republican Report.

Hours of laughter, pissing your pants, and wishing that you could have the opportunity to sit in your back yard and crack a beer with the good Doctor. Stop taking yourself so seriously, break down your boundaries and listen to this book. Honestly, we’d be in a much better place if we could all could “stop being such partisan little bitches”.
