Historia
Onetime adventurer and now amateur sleuth Lady Eleanor Swift is attending the annual royal regatta with her new pal Tipsy Fitzroy. Tipsy has Eleanor trussed up like a debutante in a new dress, determined to turn her into a proper society lady. Even Eleanor’s favorite companion, Gladstone the bulldog, has a new outfit for the occasion. But the sparkling prize-giving ceremony is interrupted when the devilishly handsome host gulps his glass of champagne on stage and collapses to the floor. The victim is none other than the king’s cousin, Lord Xander Taylor-Howard.

Sill loving this series
Revisado: 06-05-22
If you need something lighthearted and yet thought provoking then this series is it. I continue to chuckle as the antics of Lady Swift develop along with her relationships with a host of colorful characters.

Historia
Spring, 1921. Lady Eleanor Swift, explorer extraordinaire and accidental sleuth, hasn’t had a vacation since she arrived in England a year ago. So she books into the Grand Hotel in the fashionable resort of Brighton for some fresh air, fish and chips, and, of course, a dip in the ocean. Eleanor is enjoying her view of the waves and trying to find her bathing suit when calamity strikes: A guest has been found dead at her beautiful hotel. The distraught manager, who can’t afford a scandal, asks Eleanor to solve the case as swiftly as possible.

This series is a joy. It is fun, interesting and well narrated. I am a long time audible user but this is the first time I have listened to more than two books in a series in succession.

Not the author’s best
Revisado: 01-16-22
I am a fan of Julia Quinn so I am sorry to say that I found this book very slow, repetitive and dull. The heroine is annoying and the hero has little to recommend him. The attempts at humor felt forced. There is a scene that depicts attempted rape which added nothing to the story.
The narrator was, as ever, fantastic but she could not save this book.

Historia
This time, Scandal Wears Satin, as the second sister from a somewhat scandalous aristocratic family - the purveyors of one of London’s most fashionable shops - finds passion and a love as sumptuous as the gorgeous gowns she creates. Superstar romance author Susan Elizabeth Phillips says Loretta Chase has “a rare talent for creating crackling sexual tension and characters so fresh and compelling that readers won’t be able to forget them.”

Lighthearted, predictable, slow.
Revisado: 01-12-22
The story may have been better if I wasn’t so annoyed by the amount of times there are “he said, she said”. The narrator is talented and therefore it is clear who is speaking but after almost every piece of dialogue there is a “said”. It was highly distracting. The story is not as good as the first in the series . It is slow and a little repetitive. It has moments of humor and the heroine is fairly well developed. I’m impressed that anyone can produce a story like this .regardless of my personal opinion.

The cold, precise Duke of Montford demands things his way: neatly ordered, in place, and adhering closely to the rules. So he is furious when he learns that the tenant of his ducal estate has been dead for a year, and a stranger has been running the Honeywell business - which, by contract, is now Montford's. When he arrives in Yorkshire to investigate, he discovers that the estate is being run by an unruly, tomboyish woman - and a bluestocking at that!

I devour historical romantic fiction but they can be quite formulaic. This story is wonderful. Funny, sweet, unpredictable and beautifully written and narrated. Such a treat.

An almost perfect combination
Revisado: 09-09-21
I would listen to Mary Jane Wells read anything as she is amazing . MJW has got me through many an average listen. So to listen to her narrate a book that is beautifully written and so engaging is sheer joy. This story made me laugh out loud. It is captivating and developed well. It is not only a romance, it’s about friendship, strength, being true to yourself. For anyone who likes this genre it is a pleasure. There are some erotic scenes but they are not overdone and don’t dominate. The only tiny criticism I could make was the hero’s thoughts were a little repetitive. Overall I would highly recommend this story, especially to any strong willed woman. Though I have listened to many historical romances Sarah MacLean was new to me. I’m delighted to have hopefully found a new stock of intelligent romances, from a fascinating time , written expertly.

I am an avid listener and it has been a while since a book has grabbed my attention like this one did.
This book was so good that I stayed awake all night listening to it.
It keeps you guessing and is terrifying without being gory in any way.
Extremely well narrated.

Long, excellent, unnecessary quotes beginning each chapter .
Revisado: 03-04-21
Having really enjoyed the previous books in the series I was excited to start this one. The characters continue to develop and the plot was cleverly done. There are quotes from The Fairy Queen at the beginning of each chapter that I found irritating and added to the length of the book which was already a little too long.
On the whole this is a good thriller, excellently performed. I hope the series continues.

Historia
Nestled into the cliffs in southern Italy's Amalfi coast, Positano is an artist's vision, with rows of brightly hued houses perched above the sea and picturesque staircases meandering up and down the hillside. Santina, still a striking woman despite old age and the illness that saps her last strength, is spending her final days at her home, Villa San Vito. The magnificent 18th-century palazzo is very different from the tiny house in which she grew up. And as she decides its fate, she must confront the choices that led her here so long ago.

Beautifully written but slow and lacking substance
Revisado: 01-21-21
The descriptions of the scenery were nice, but this did not detract from it feeling like a recipe book with every meal described in mind numbing detail. The characters had more potential than the author developed . I stuck with it as the whole thing felt like it was building up to something but it ended with as much energy as the rest of the book. The whole thing was slow and almost dull. I dislike giving a poor review as it takes courage and skill to write a good book and for some this may be a good book. This review is one person’s opinion.

Something for all.
Revisado: 04-04-20
This is a beautifully written, superbly narrated story for anyone who wishes to feel when reading. Though one part of the plot, no spoilers, is a little unbelievable one can easily forgive. This story is a great reminder of the sacrifices of so many in the Second World War without being overly sentimental. Indeed this story made me laugh out loud. All of the characters are wonderfully portrayed. Indeed I want to move to Cornwall immediately! The back and forth in time that some reviewers complain about I thought were wonderfully woven and only enhanced the message that love, no matter who you are, how old you may be, or the life that you have led is really our greatest gift. I would highly recommend this book.
