Historia
For four millennia, the sixteen planets of the Imperium sector have served as a bastion of peace against the Chaosic Regions. The Imperium's legacy can be attributed to the formidable military power of the Stratus, the enforcers of the Supreme and the Senate. However, as is often the case with empires, it is the smallest cracks that threaten to shatter their foundations.

A good start, sagged in the middle, did not finish
Revisado: 01-04-23
World (or multi-world) building is very hard work. Good intention and details in the start, but faded in execution mid-way. Sorry, I could not justify the time to finish the book, and hit NEXT. The editor in me wants this to succeed with an author re-write to tighten up the plot arcs, but at the moment does not get my passing grade.

Lieutenant Kiera Markov is a scout platoon leader for a peacekeeping force on the remote planet of Tanara, where little has happened for decades, and the only mission is to keep the lithium flowing up the space elevator to feed the galaxy’s incessant demand. But when an unprecedented attack kills the entirety of the brigade’s leadership, the untested lieutenant suddenly finds herself in command.

A firm recommend - time well spent over two days
Revisado: 07-18-22
Ok, you've read the book's fly sheet on Audible, and wondering if this is worth a go? The premise of a junior officer becoming the only officer of a planetary command unit is a probable minefield. Pleasantly surprised - not full of too much exposition, nor never-ending internal monologuing, and with the story blocks moving along nicely. A good listen, either as a stand-alone book, or the beginning of a series if that is the author's plan, However I agree with other reviews that a little more differentiation by the narrator between female characters' voices would help the listening experience if there is a follow-up book.

Surrounded and outgunned, a group of private military contractors known as “Strange Company” find themselves on a remote planet at the edge of known space, and on the losing end of a bad contract. Orbital D-beam strikes, dropships bristling with auto-guns, missiles, and troops - even Monarch space marines in state-of-the-art advanced battle rattle - will try to prevent the company from reaching the exfil LZ and getting off-world.

Pacing did not work for me
Revisado: 03-28-21
I just could not finish this audio book, maybe I would have persisted as a physical read instead? Advertised as a "do whatever we have to do to get out of here" scenario, strangely it was the unrelenting drive on to do just that that was disturbed by asides, foreshadowing, reflections from the past, and other devices to beef up character development that did me in this time.
Narrator did a good job

Not going to spoil the plot for you. For the audio edition a slight niggle that Antigua (An-tee-guh) was continually mis-pronounced, getting thru that section was getting in the way of the story for me.

Historia
United Nations Special Operations Command sent an elite expeditionary force of soldiers and pilots out on a simple recon mission, and somehow along the way they sparked an alien civil war. Now the not-at-all-merry band of pirates is in desperate trouble, again. Their stolen alien starship is falling apart, thousands of light years from home. The ancient alien AI they nicknamed Skippy is apparently dead, and even if they can by some miracle revive him, he might never be the same.

An OK mil-sf story, let down by jarring oversights
Revisado: 11-10-17
Hmm, how to do this without spoiling the plot . . .
Story structure is quite good, characterization needs deepening, and would expect that from a future book in the series.
Story framing and scope has some lapses. The bad guys are reported to be looking to take over the universe, not the galaxy, which kind-of made me go " whattzat - huh?". From the jist of the plot jumpdrives seem to be going from system to system, not jumping the void between galaxies. It would have been nice to be given some rough direction where in the galaxy/universe different races we are introduced to are based.
My main issue with the story thoughout was when the main character visits Earth, and alternates at odd times casually tossing out Earth-English terms and phrases when elsewhere he does not understand slang or what other terms of phrase actually mean. When he uses "ace in the hole" I completely lost my trust in the plot. It would not have been too difficult to create non-Terran turns of phrase which we, as readers could understand or work out the meaning.
I think I will pass on future books in this series. Christian, book one structure is fine, but needs some polish.

What did you love best about The Land: Alliances: A LitRPG Saga?
As the main character levels up in different skill areas the sound effect prompts before status messages are very good. In a "normal" read-through I have listened to from other authors they are missing. Good choice for this series adapton

Historia
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

Earth is conquered. Sol is lost. One ship is tasked to free them. One Captain to save them all. When an alien armada destroys the United Earth Space Force and takes control of the human homeworld, newly reinstated Captain Annette Bond must take her experimental hyperspace cruiser Tornado into exile as Terra's only interstellar privateer. She has inferior technology, crude maps, and no concept of her enemy, but the seedy underbelly of galactic society welcomes her so long as she has prizes to sell and money to spend.

The best sf book this year
Revisado: 11-14-16
A nice meaty SF saga, that stands alone as a single book. So many others are shorter, built to be split into a three of five part series, leaving the reader slightly disappointed at the ending of each one. Not so here.
