Likeable characters and intriguing storylines. Occasionally the sleuthing jumps a best and one wonders how the conclusions occurred. Good read and enticing to read on.

Interesting story line
Revisado: 03-10-17
This was an Interesting story line. I think the idea of the web page could have been expanded more. The story wrapped up a bit quickly and I suppose the 'post log' left room for the author to do a sequel though I'm not sure how believable that idea is.

Historia
At age 24 Winston Churchill was utterly convinced it was his destiny to become prime minister of England one day, despite the fact he had just lost his first election campaign for Parliament. He believed that to achieve his goal, he had to do something spectacular on the battlefield. Despite deliberately putting himself in extreme danger as a British army officer in colonial wars in India and Sudan and as a journalist covering a Cuban uprising against the Spanish, glory and fame had eluded him.

Millard, Vance and Churchill!
Revisado: 12-06-16
The author brings Churchill, the colorful character to life in her telling and Vance's voice suits the description beautifully. Churchill's youthful ambition is described through quotes from his letters and writing. This is a worthy history that reads like an entertaining fiction.

Not my favorite
Revisado: 10-12-16
An abrupt ending to a book that seems to put characters thru a variety of nonsensical twists. It seemed like the author had a deluge of ideas that he couldn't resist including even though not really helpful to furthering the plot.

This was a nice surprise from a randomly chosen book. The story is well told. I didn't find it predictable and that kept the mystery aspect rolling. Love the reader, too!

Predictable
Revisado: 08-08-15
Not my favorite of the Hoag books. The story was predictable right down to the name of the evildoer being dangerman. The woman reader was very capable but the effortful sound of her voice when reading male parts was grating & hard to enjoy.

Historia
In the late nineteenth century, people were obsessed by one of the last unmapped areas of the globe: The North Pole. No one knew what existed beyond the fortress of ice rimming the northern oceans. On July 8, 1879, the USS Jeannette set sail from San Francisco to cheering crowds in the grip of "Arctic Fever." The ship sailed into uncharted seas, but soon was trapped in pack ice. Two years into the harrowing voyage, the hull was breached. Amid the rush of water and the shrieks of breaking wooden boards, the crew abandoned the ship.

A gentle push
Revisado: 09-12-12
Where does Life of Pi rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Near the top
Who was your favorite character and why?
Pi - I love Pi's childlike yet complex character.
Any additional comments?
The Life of Pi is beautifully told at a "story" level yet the writer pushes one to look at human behavior. I love the author's ability to handle ticklish spiritual issues while maintaining humor. He manages to communicate the beauty & innocence of Pi's religious explorations all the while urging the reader to examine his/her own viewpoints.
The writer also covers day after of Pi's onerous solitary existence in his raft yet never loses the reader for a second. In the final pages one is taken through yet another story again left with questions for self examination.
The Life of Pi is a book which can be read again & again with new insights arising each time.
