Historia
At exactly 7:30 p.m., Walter Pettibone arrived home to over 100 friends and family shouting, "surprise!" It was his birthday. Although he had known about the planned event for weeks, the real surprise was yet to come. At 8:45 p.m., a woman with emerald eyes and red hair handed him a glass of champagne. One sip of birthday bubbly, and he was dead.

Another good story!
Revisado: 03-29-11
Another rollicking ride with Lt. Eve Dallas; a story with twists and turns aplenty. The reader was off on this one, which was surprising. It was difficult to distinguish Eve's voice from Peabody's, which is unusual. Otherwise I couldn't put it away.

Historia
With chaos brewing, the governor calls upon Jamie Fraser to unite the backcountry and safeguard the colony for King and Crown. But from his wife, Jamie knows that three years hence the shot heard round the world will be fired, and the result will be independence, with those loyal to the King either dead or in exile. And there is also the matter of a tiny clipping from The Wilmington Gazette, dated 1776, which reports Jamie's death, along with his kin.

Love this series!

These books keep me interested because the characters and settings are so beautifully drawn. While my favorite narrator for the series is Davina Porter, this narrator did a good job.

Historia
Jamie Fraser knows from his time-traveling wife, Claire, that, no matter how unlikely it seems, America will win the Revolutionary War. But fighting for the eventual winner is no guarantee of safety. And worse still, the possibility of pointing a weapon at his own son - a young officer in the British army - haunts Jamie's every thought.

Intriguing but an abrupt ending...
Revisado: 03-20-10
I love this book series and can't wait for the next installment, which I must assume is coming soon since this book stopped so abruptly with many of the main characters in peril, both in modern day and in Revolutionary War era America. Davina Porter's voicing of the various characters and her uncanny ability to do the Scottish and Irish accents are truly engaging and amazing.

Historia
Jamie Fraser knows from his time-traveling wife Claire that, no matter how unlikely it seems, America will win the Revolutionary War. But that truth offers little solace, since Jamie realizes he might find himself pointing a weapon directly at his own son - a young officer in the British army. And Jamie isn't the only one with a tormented soul - for Claire may know who wins the conflict, but she certainly doesn't know whether or not her beloved Jamie survives.

Loved the plot line of this Eve Dallas story, but I'm finding Eve's angry tirades becoming over the top wearing on my nerves. Think I'll take a break from the Eve Dallas series for a while.

Predicatable yet Delectable
Revisado: 03-20-10
Even though I had the killer pegged midway through the story, it was intriguing to follow the story to its highly satisfying conclusion. Solid writing and I thought the narrator did an adequate job of voicing the various characters - not as skillful as some, but not as annoying as some reviewers painted her.

Historia
For Captain Charles Hunter, gold in Spanish hands is gold for the taking, and the law of the land rests with those ruthless enough to make it. Word in port is that the galleon El Trinidad, fresh from New Spain, is awaiting repairs in a nearby harbor. Heavily fortified, the impregnable harbor is guarded by the bloodthirsty Cazalla, a favorite commander of the Spanish king himself. With backing from a powerful ally, Hunter assembles a crew of ruffians to infiltrate the enemy outpost and commandeer El Trinidad, along with its fortune in Spanish gold.

Disappointing
Revisado: 03-20-10
There were no characters in this book that I cared about and the story didn't have any threads that pulled me forward. The narration was also flat. I was expecting a sweeping tale with a lead character that had panache and style - needless to say, my expectation wasn't met. I listened to the end only because I kept hoping against hope that the book would redeem itself. Don't waste your time, your money or your book credits.
