This story is dragged out and yet the real issues that kept the couple apart was never addressed. The author/FMC blamed all their arguments on the actions of the MMC. When it makes perfect sense for who he is (even without knowing his history) why he acts the way he does. Yet never once is it addressed that the real issue is the FMC's insecurity regarding his money and her immaturity on how to show this. She keeps punishing him for being a billionaire and her assumptions that he's out of place in the slums even after she found out he grew up in the foster system. More to the point, she has a trust fund. But kept holding his money against him. Make it make sense!!! Another issue is she keeps blaming him for doing things to pursue her and not communicating how this is an issue for her. Real book bf material but she threw a hissy fit about him wanting to take her to Paris. Whos the real problem here? Not to mention that everytime she hates on something about MMC, she references Patrick. Yet, nowhere in this unreasonably long story is she called out for her crap! Brandon deserves better. For the sake of the audience, this couple just needs to find other people. She's too immature for him, and hes too messed up to not internalize all her crap as his fault.

Pros:
Wonderful narration. Elena portrayed innocence and strength so well in this narration. Her intonation is so well done that you can tell the FMC shes not stupid, just inexperienced.
Corvin also did phenomenal voicing each of the MMC. There was clear distinction between Sonny and the twins. Sometimes its hard to tell the twins apart but i'd say thats an addition since thats how it is in real life with identical twins.
Plot is very inventive for a dystopian, dark why-choose.

Cons:
The world building is poorly researched. Author's understanding of capitalism, supply/demand, general economics, and government is very superficial. Some of the ideas/foundations that created or started this dystopian world could not have existed and progressed in the way it was written. Also there are many plot holes and contradictions such as consistent mention of lack of heirs or not enough laborers are born but yet the MC's want to bring back outlawed birth controls. How is there such a significant decrease in birthrate when all manner of birth control are outlawed?

If you dont overthink the world and just focus on the characters and the smut, this is a wonderful read. It would actually make more sense if the feminist propaganda was taken out. The basis of religions, or lack thereof, fighting for dominance is a strong enough foundation. There wasnt a need for feminist approach. Either map the regression of the world better or take it out completely, it wouldnt have been missed. The story wouldve carried on just the same.

Why does the MMC sound like a cheap failed villain? The MMC is so poorly narrated, its as if the narrator is mocking the story. It also makes the MMC sound like a joke and not the book bf readers gravitate to.

The story is written well and paced appropriately to keep your interest. Female narrator is also wonderful. She voiced the character with detail to her personality and ongoing dilemmas. She is the only reason for any stars in performance.

Really the only downside to this book is the male narration. Its hard to get pass the mockery.

Narration is as expected from Joe Arden. Each character is identifiable and whole. Complete with intonation and personality solely for each character. Even the female character are voiced differently by him. Phenomenal as always. Desiree did a wonderful job as well. FMC is both vulnerable and strong at the same time.

This story is an interesting take om fated mates. Lots of twist and turns that kept me guessing. It also introduces the next book's MCs so well, I cant wait to learn more about them.

Easy story to enjoy and understand, for such a complicated world. Author did a great job making such a complex, multi-layered world consumable without dragging stretches of world-building without action.

Listening to this series after having read King of sins and Twisted series shows drastic growth in Ana's writing. This book has so many character holes and forced/unsensical scenes to push the love story forward. This unfortunately makes the characters seem weak or their love superficial and immature.
The way the FMC was able to forget the betrayal and pain she supposedly carried since the end of book 1 makes it seem like she actually didnt hurt all that much, which makes it seem like she really didnt care all that much. It wasnt even a matter of shes easy to forgive, he didnt have to ask for forgiveness, worst yet he treated her poorly still while "trying to win her back". He's so terrible and she not just enabled him to be terrible, she encouraged it by showing him how little she sees herself and what she deserves.

The only reason i got through this story is because CJ Bloom and Joe Arden combo is magic. Joe can growl for 8 hours and I'll listen to it for 36 hours straight. His Anatasia and Melinda voices are so mean-girls. The best!

Everly is either the worst-written FMC or is just a tool used to build other characters and smut scene. Such a missed potential. Descriptions of her and her backstory is so inconsistent with her actions and POV. Her whole hang up is staying out of public eye, yet she consistently threw tantrums in public. She didnt want to give Declan a chance because hes a public figure, yet she fought for most of the story to have flings with other pro-football players. She uses her SA history against Declan but wants all the guys in the gym to objectify her (just to clarify this isnt my opinion, she does it on purpose according to the book). Shes described as pure and good but shes publicly married to Declan AND dating another casually. To speak of the fact that she keeps having s*x with her husband, who she supposedly only married on paper, without telling the guy she wants to keep seeing (Wes) that she's sleeping with Declan. It tried to downplay cheating. Sure maybe Wes wouldnt have cared, but that doesnt negate that she just openly wants cake and eat it too. She's supposedly an obsessive planner, but she wakes up late, consistently forgets things and so irresponsible. The entire time she claims its just marriage of convenience and theres no feelings but then all of a sudden shes so broken up when he says he doesnt love her? When did she show him that she was doing it for feelings, not for the studio? Theres nothing strong about her. Shes just toxic, looking to provoke people who are actually helping her. She feeds off of the drama. All this is even worse when shes compared to how well-written Clara is in her own book. Its almost as if shes written so terribly to be able to display how great Declan is. Like if it wasnt for him, shed fall into a pothole without a hairtie. But hey she'll act like she's independent because she chose to do it.

Declan deserves better. At the core of the story, they have no real reason not to be together, but the FMC being a drama-queen. She just kept hurting him over and over.

Its night and day to how good Love and Loathing is.

FMC is so unlikeable. How characters are described, and their actions and decisions are inconsistent.

Honestly, I only stuck around because of Joe Arden. But the writing and plot are wanting.

Story is well written. But Joe Arden is an experience. His narration is better than a movie. Its sorcery how he was able to clearly distinguish when Malachi is signing, speaking or internal monologue without relying on dialogue tags. HOW DID HE COME UP WITH A VOICE AND TONE FOR SIGNING? Its insane. The torment he was able to infuse in the character even in the flat/casual parts of the story is sheer perfection.

Ive read this book prior to listening to the audiobook, and print/ebook pales in comparison to Joe's narration. I never thought i would ever cry so much hearing a fading WHOOSH. Honestly, the whoosh kinda annoyed me on paper but in audio, it felt like each one is loaded with meaning. Its amazing how masterfully Joe voiced the different characters. At every point, you know exactly who's talking without hearing the dialogue tags. I also never thought you can experience torment by just the rasp and gravel tones alone, but leave it to a great narrator to show you how.

This also gives a different perspective to Cecelia's experience. I hated her in exodus, but this book made me wonder if she wouldve actually chosen Tobias had Dom been around. Gives a different feeling to all the times shes called Tobias "my king". Is it because hes the ONLY King left/around?

Whole story is a long drawn out story about an immature, whiny, indignant hypocrite. There's so many woe is me, insecurity-based drama, that led to no real resolution. Waste of time! Its literally listening to a child cry "why?!" over and over and over, even after hearing an explanation multiple times.
