Highly entertaining! Must read!
Revisado: 03-08-22
Jack Townsend is hands down one of the best writers of the 21 century. Still a largely undiscovered hidden gem writer. One day soon he will break mainstream and many new fans will have a wealth of wonderful stories to discover. Looking forward to his character of, Jack and all of his stories being turned into a long running television show or feature films.
Jack has another winner on his hands. Bedside Manor is written with such wit and charm, you can't help but love the characters. I couldn't put it down. Completed the book in a single sitting. Had to know what the next chapter had waiting for me to discover. Can't wait for many more stories to come in this universe. The character of Jack should be spoken of in the same breath as, Dresden and Reacher. Looking forward to each new installment.
MrCreepyPasta breaths such life into the characters. Easily up there with Ray Porter for quality narration and enjoyment factor.

Provoked self reflection on own past and mortality
Revisado: 08-09-21
Characters lives and relationships so well written and flushed out that it caused me to consider my own past life experiences, relationships and eventual mortality. King created living breathing characters who lived lives and experiences that felt real. So much so I felt the loss of those characters when tragedy struck them. Felt sad when they were no longer the young wide eyed version of themselves, but older and worn down versions with the passage of time.
Such a wonderful read. Plenty of scares and horrifying imagery. Worth ones time.

Stephen King in the style of Scorsese and Stone...
Revisado: 08-04-21
with a dash of Shyamalan. Billy Summers is a side of King I've not had a chance to experience before. Although there is still a lot of King I have yet to read. This is not the, Master of Horror I've come to expect. Instead this is a King that would be right at home crafting Martin Scorsese's next film project. For fans of King's prior darker writings, there is a nice little Easter Egg to his past. A recommendation for fans and for those looking for something a little different from King.
Initially I was nervous with Paul Sparks narration, but soon that faded away and I found myself enjoying his talents.

Working at a dead-end retail job in the middle of nowhere can be hard. The long hours. The helpless customers. The enormous eldritch horror living deep below the building. As the only full-time employee at the 24 hour gas station at the edge of town, Jack has pretty much seen it all. But when he decides to start an online journal documenting the bizarre day-to-day occurrences, he unwittingly attracts the attention of much more than just a few conspiracy theorists.

A magnificent hidden gem waiting to be discovered!
Revisado: 07-28-21
Completely blown away by just how much of a wonderfully enjoyable listen this book was. Entertaining from beginning to end. I wanted it to go on forever. Currently salivating with anticipation to listen to the second book in the series. The humor is top notch. The dialogue is wicked smart. Jack Townsend has a long fantastic career ahead of him. And the narrator, Mr Creepy Pasta was absolutely born to bring this book to audible life.
If your a fan of the film, Bubba Ho-Tep or the film/book, John Dies at the End, you are going to love this book. Really hope this gets turned into a major motion picture some day very soon.
Highest Recommendation!

Historia
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

HOT DAMN!
Revisado: 12-30-20
The first third is GOOD...the last two thirds is a GREAT ADVENTURE! This is my first experience with writer, Peter Clines and man am I looking forward to reading more from him and his Threshold Universe. Ray Porter breaths life into each character and makes each one distinctly different. Thoughts of, Cthulhu and the movie, My Science Project (1985) came to mind while listening. The lead character is charismatic and whip smart. I love the description of how his brain works. The character of, Sasha is perfect and had me chuckling at statements she would make. Together they make a perfect pair. This novel would make for an excellent big budget Hollywood film. Highly recommend!

A Roller Coaster ride of emotions!
Revisado: 12-30-20
I was enjoying the narration of the story for the first five and half hours. Peter Berkrot was PERFECT in his delivery. In the last hour I was ANGRY with the direction the story was going. In the last couple of minutes I CHOKED up with the feelings of JOY and RELIEF. I've read this book changed the way child custody was determined. Reading what appeared to be the way it was handled at the time of the writing of this book and the way it is handled now, I'm glad the changes were made. If you're a parent, this is a great eye opening and emotional read. Highly recommend.

...meh
Revisado: 12-14-20
The story was largely bland. I took issue with character developments throughout. How quickly the main character fell in with the group, read false. She asked a handful of probing questions when things sounded odd at the start, but quickly brushed those oddities aside because there was a cute guy who showed interest in her. She was also willing to accept large differences in the believes the group had from normal life with the exception of physically punishing her children. Leaving one to question how this character could possibly believe some of the absurd ideas the group went by, yet was still grounded enough to know physical abuse towards her children was wrong and was willing to ignore following that bit of the groups believe. Her father was shown to be harsh towards her in the beginning, giving her a possible reason for finding comfort in the group. Yet after almost 20 years of not having heard from her and finally seeing her again and hearing of her ordeal, he still basically treats her the same, really? While at the same time showing a kindness towards her children, another false ring for me. There is an injury that occurs in the story and by the description of it's severity and the length of time that goes by without it's treatment, I find it near impossible to believe one would not have been able to survive it for that length of time. Now I am willing to admit that I may be wrong in the ways I feel this book failed in it's characterizations. The writer did speak with individuals who experienced being a part of such groups and possibly took exact descriptions from those individuals and put them in this story. If so, my apologies. In the end, the overall story left me wanting for a better told story.

Boring, Bland and Predictable
Revisado: 12-09-20
After reading the premise and seeing the reviews I was excited for what was about to unfold. Not even a third of the way through the book I said aloud to myself who I believed the killer would be...and was proven right. The writing for me was blah, nothing popped. I was enjoying none of the character interaction or the story as it was spilling out in front of me. After getting two thirds of the way through I finally, DNF'd it.
The interactions between the main character and her ex have you feeling like they were complete strangers and never had a prior relationship. The relationship between the main character and her daughter takes a 180 degree turn in such a way that it feels the daughter is two completely different people.
Happy for those who enjoyed it. Would have loved to of had the same experience.

Wonderful Discovery
Revisado: 11-30-20
Took a chance on The House Keeper. Not having heard of the writer, Natalie Barelli before, I was apprehensive about what the quality of her writing would be. The synopsis was tantalizing and I hoped the story itself would live up. Boy did it! Barelli is a wonderful storyteller. The lead character of, Claire was fully formed and a real delight to experience. I love the way she thought and spoke and I wanted to see what she would say and do next. Needing to know how the story ended I finished the book in a single binge.
Susie Berneis was absolutely perfect as the narrator and I want to listen to more books she has read. I will be going back and reading more books by, Barelli and look forward to future releases with excitement.
Highly recommend!

Flawed but Loved
Revisado: 11-24-20
After loving the characters from the original, there are opening character interactions that hurt. Lengthy grievances between characters that resolve instantly without proper communication. New characters are underused and underdeveloped. Villains are not as flushed out or explored as well as in the original. The final battle is far less exciting and fist pumping as in the first novel. An end that leaves me questioning if I want a third.
After having said all of that, there were moments between characters that made me laugh (Wade & H especially). Moments between, Wade and Art3mis that made me smile and want their love to grow. And a John Hughes segment that warmed my heart and transported me back to the 1980's.
For all of my perceived flaws of the story, the wonderful moments with characters I love far and away made returning to this universe well worth the price of admission.
