Broken Rules
Revisado: 03-28-25
Why would you write from someone’s perspective, but lie? This was unfair to those of us who were trying to figure out what happened. I hated the ending.

Historia
Talking about death and dying is considered taboo in polite company, and even in the medical field. Our ideas about dying are confusing at best: Will our memories flash before our eyes? Regrets consume our thoughts? Does a bright light appear at the end of a tunnel? For most people, it will be a slower process, one eased with preparedness, good humor, and a bit of faith. At the forefront of changing attitudes around palliative care is hospice nurse Hadley Vlahos, who shows that end-of-life care can teach us just as much about how to live as it does about how we die.

So inspiring and comforting
Revisado: 06-20-23
Hadley, thank you for writing this book! With your words: You’ve inspired many people to want to be hospice nurses. You’ve given so many comfort. You’ve taught so many, including those who won’t be lucky enough to receive hospice care, what to expect at the end. Although you didn’t elaborate, you pointed out the hardships of affordable medical care/insurance tied to our employment. You also show how sometimes staying employed can seem to conflict with our morals. Throughout the book you showed us how you learned to stick up for yourself and your patients. For all of these reasons, and many more, I see you as a hero.

Historia
Author of the international best seller I'm with the Band: Confessions of a Groupie, Pamela Des Barres shares with women the art of memoir writing. For the last 14 years, Pamela Des Barres has been teaching an eight-week women's "femoir" writing workshop. She found that the music-loving ladies who showed up at her door had pent-up stories to tell. Many of them had read her two memoirs, which were wildly personal and deeply confessional, and felt comfortable opening up and experiencing that same freedom of expression.

Did you know the world’s most favorite groupie has groupies? She calls them Dolls and mentors them, gathers them under her wings and teaches them to find their voices. Pamela’s workshops bring the Dolls close as they share secret stories - but these pieces have been allowed to be shared in this wonderful book that could have been called “Chicken Soup for the Groupie Soul” ❤️

Historia
Pamela Des Barres, celebrated “queen of the groupies,” chronicled her adventures with rock stars in her bestseller I’m with the Band. This book picks up where that one left off, with Pamela embarking on marriage and motherhood, all the while sharing quarters and making friends with stars. But this is a survivor’s story about the anguish of coping with loved ones’ addictions, about suffering divorce, about the joys and terrors of raising a gifted son.

Under-rated
Revisado: 04-10-22
As a teen I wanted to marry my favorite musicians. Pamela very honestly details the ups and downs of such a life. This is an incredible book and deserves to be as well known as I’m With the Band.

Historia
As soon as she graduated from high school, Pamela Des Barres headed for the Sunset Strip, where she knocked on rock stars' backstage doors and immersed herself in the drugs, danger, and ecstasy of the freewheeling 1960s. Over the next 10 years she had affairs with Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Keith Moon, Waylon Jennings, Chris Hillman, Noel Redding, and Jim Morrison, among others. She traveled with Led Zeppelin; lived in sin with Don Johnson; turned down a date with Elvis Presley; and was close friends with Robert Plant, Gram Parsons, Ray Davies, and Frank Zappa.

Wild ride!
Revisado: 04-10-22
This is a wild ride through the world of rock n roll. Pamela narrates this herself and adds in extra little tidbits. She is fun and charming - and she even makes shirts for her beaus. Great book!

Better than Piper’s book
Revisado: 10-17-18
I listened to Piper’s book and then this one (primarily to get more detail on the crimes). Cleary is a much more likable person. We get to really know all about her. Her relationship with her partners was so sweet, her relationships with her lovers were touching, and her love for her cats was absolutely endearing. The story about Patches is something I’ll laugh about for a long time. This book is written well (except some of the details about the logistics of moving mules & escorts around were a little confusing). It was hard to put down.
