This book is for the True Fairy Tale Lover
Revisado: 12-03-19
Such a lovely story, and so magical. You're going to see reviews where people couldn't get into the book, or that the old adage that "love completes the girl" is so old-fashioned thinking." Let's remember for some of us our true love has completed us in some ways, and helped strengthen us, and in some case, soften our individual selves into a more secure and healthy person. The heroin in this story is strong and beautiful, and while she is happy with her life and herself, it's beautiful to know there is another being out there that makes her even more amazing. I believe that our loves, family and friends make us better versions of ourselves, and this is the moral to this very well told story.

A good spin on B & the B. A nice glimpse into the faerie world. Some parts are a little slow and underwhelming. But for the most part it is a sweet and fun read.

Historia
A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

So Boring.
Revisado: 08-16-16
When it took 25 minutes of pain staking reading for the writer to describe breaking into a locked chest I finally gave up on this book. The writer's descriptive abilities are high school level at best. The best word so far was the term "lightless" which was used to describe a dark basement. That's about it. I made it to chapter 5 of 11. I hope you make it further than I did. Sorry to the author for my negative review...😞

Historia
It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive. Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them - not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her. His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble. But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can't entirely explain.

Poetically Capturing.
Revisado: 05-04-16
The writing is excellent; the description method used to tell this story is poetic and mesmerizing. I was drawn into the story not only by each character's tale, but also by the writers written view of the story's physical environment which is displayed in such a way that one slowly relegalizes that the environment is a living character too. I've read so many books over the years, and I have to say this is my favorite writing style so far.

After fleeing Ojai, Nicholas, Sophie, Josh, and Scatty emerge in Paris, the City of Lights. Home of Nicholas Flamel. Perenell is still locked up back in Alcatraz and Paris is teeming with enemies. Niccolò Machiavelli, immortal author and art collector, is after them, and time is running. For every day spent without the Book of Abraham the Mage, they age one year, their magic becoming weaker and their bodies more frail. For Flamel, the Prophecy is becoming more and more clear.

Anmature Writing at BEST.
Revisado: 06-06-12
What would have made The Magician better?
The storyline and plot isn't original. It’s taken two books to tell a part of a story that could have been told in three chapters. Repeated thoughts, and feelings occur so often that you can quote word for word what is going to be said after the second and even the third time of hearing it! The writer has a limited vocabulary, and lacks the ability to describe feelings and actions of the characters in basic conversation. Most of the time he overstates actions and feeling. DUDE, WE GET IT...HE'S MAD! It reads like I write...which isn't good and should not be published. Honestly – the author has a good idea for a story, with interesting facts, and creative interpretations of myths and mythical creatures (although some facts are overstated, and farfetched); however - I think this writer would have been better off submitting his idea for the books to a good writer so the story could be told well. I'm half way through listening to this book and nothing has changed at all; well nothing that couldn't be told in one chapter, or maybe even in a half chapter.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I'm not listening to book three in this series. My ears are bleeding already and I'm half way through book two. I just have to finish it...because I paid one credit for it. I suggest, if you like mythical creatures, you read some of Tamora Pierce's books like "Wild Magic". I started with "The Circle of Magic" series. Now, that's a great writer!
How could the performance have been better?
The performance is great considering the material.
What character would you cut from The Magician?
I'd cut the brother - or give him some other personality besides - village idiot. He is probably the most predictable character I've ever had the displeasure of listening too. This character repeats himself more than any other character in the book...and that's saying something. Also, he contradicts himself continuously. I assume this is the author's way of stating he is confused...but believe me...WE KNOW HE'S CONFUSED! That was well covered in the first book.
Any additional comments?
I don't like to tell people not to support a writer. But if you value your dollar...don't waste it on this book. Sorry. I feel bad for this review, but honesty is always best. It is possible that the writing gets better as the series progresses, but I'd rather not risk it.

Historia
Nicholas Flamel is the greatest Alchemyst to ever live. The records show that he died in 1418, but what if he's actually been making the elixir of life for centuries? The secrets to eternal life are hidden within the book he protects - the Book of Abraham the Mage. It's the most powerful book that has ever existed, and in the wrong hands, it will destroy the world. And that's exactly what Dr. John Dee plans to do when he steals it. There is one hope. If the prophecy is true, Sophie and Josh Newman have the power to save everyone. Now they just have to learn to use it.

Mythical creatures come to life - that's cool.
Revisado: 06-01-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Sure. It's a good lead into what could be a very fun packed story somewhere down the line.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I would have done a lot less repeating facts and maybe would have spead up pace a bit. Not much happens in this book.
Which character – as performed by Denis O'Hare – was your favorite?
I liked them all the same.
Any additional comments?
The story is good, and it does leave the reading wanting to read more. I think there could have been a lot more told in this book...and that it wasn't so obvious what is going to happen between the brother and sister in the next book.

Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

Point of view matters much.
Revisado: 02-25-08
For starters...this is not a children's book. So don't get it and let your kids listen to it. It is a very adult take on “The Wizard of Oz” story. It is from the Wicked Witch’s point of view. And what a point of view! The story is so well told that I liked her in no time at all. Hehe…it cracks me up…how things can be taken out of its true context even in a children’s story. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
