Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

This book is a MUST READ!
Revisado: 05-14-22
The fact that you can listen to a book like this at all is a miracle in and of itself! In order to avoid future possibilities of a world like Orwell’s ever coming to reality, it is the pinnacle of artistry for creators and writers to come up with storylines like these, not purely for our entertainment but also for our forethought and to make us think.
Never read this book? You should! It’s disagreeable nature is intentional in order to make you conceptualize things in a certain light. A dystopian future-telling is dystopian to show us what evils there could be, so that in effect they never can come to pass.
Simply a must-read!

Historia
Multiverse travel is finally possible, but there’s just one catch: No one can visit a world where their counterpart is still alive. Enter Cara, whose parallel selves happen to be exceptionally good at dying—from disease, turf wars, or vendettas they couldn’t outrun. Cara’s life has been cut short on 372 worlds in total. On this dystopian Earth, however, Cara has survived. Identified as an outlier and therefore a perfect candidate for multiverse travel, Cara is plucked from the dirt of the wastelands.

Good but could be so much better.
Revisado: 01-22-21
I definitely enjoyed listening to the story. But a lot of the time I was lost in how little I could see of the world through what I could hear. The descriptiveness and world building within the story has much to be desired, though the story itself is quite enjoyable. I would recommend it to people that are looking for a different angle on dreams of parallel universes but not to anyone desiring to believe in their scientific probability.
Overall, it feels more fiction than science fiction in style, and less visionary than the theoretical science it’s based on.

Wow! Unexpected awesome!
Revisado: 01-09-21
Finding a book by Christopher Paolini totally by accident, and finding that it is an all new world, with brand new creativity was a pleasant and welcome surprise!
Now mind you, this is an adult science-fiction novel. So just know that going into it, most especially if you grew up reading Christopher Paolini’s Inheritance Cycle written for young adults. This world is completely different!
This book is vast. This book is science fiction well grounded in reality. It has horror, beauty, awe, & wonder, real & relatable characters, and a storyline that keeps you unexpectedly & anxiously on the edge of your sit wanting to know just what will happen next!
I greatly anticipate coming to sequels in this original fiction about a future universe Paolini has envisioned.

I wish this could be redone!
Revisado: 10-05-20
It’s a book by Frank Perretti, so I know it’s good and I definitely like the story, but this particular audiobook recording has much to be desired.
Constant echoing in the room this recording was done in makes it hard to appreciate the telling of the story. It seems like this was not done professionally. Also, the reader doesn’t have much distinction between different characters voices that he reads.

Not Artemis Fowl but a worthy addition
Revisado: 11-16-19
Technology of the Faerie people seems to have increased in the years between the last Artemis fowl book and the story of our twins here. I’m a bit confused as to why humanity and the Faerie people have not begun to mix and mingle as was suggested at the end of the Artemis Fowl saga, but the story is still suits the slow progression of this universe and still warms the heart with its fresh new ideas.

Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

I’m surprised that I like the film more.
Revisado: 07-01-19
Not a bad story at all. While I understand that first the story is written for a younger audience and completely in first person, I really didn’t connect with Wade Watts as a believable character. It seems much too self-centered and selfish focusing in on a character that never really made any mistakes with real lasting consequences. He has all the goods, he has all the knowledge, he has all the skills, and he’s all the bad ass, and he gets everything he wants in the end. There was one point in the story where I thought they were going to explore a possible flaw for him, but it turned out it was just him explaining more of the very simple and straight forward plot with minuscule amounts of side story.
I didn’t feel like I was being introduced to the universe and included in it. It seems to me like Steven Spielberg‘s version of the storyline in his film, takes on an angle that widens the universe keyhole and makes it more about the necessity of sharing your experiences with other people, enjoying the fun of the games, building friendships and relationships, and while enjoying the virtual world keeping steadily in your mind still that “Reality is the only thing that’s real.”
I didn’t get the same sense from this book.
I much appreciated that it was Will Wheaton reading the book, but it was hard for me to feel like it was more about the world that Wade Watts lives in than it was about the awesome luck and chance for Wade Watts.
I guess it works as a children’s story, But there wasn’t much left after that. Again, it’s not bad, it just could have been so much more.

Historia
With Storytelling and the Sciences of Mind, David Herman proposes a cross-fertilization between the study of narrative and research on intelligent behavior. The book as a whole centers on two questions: How do people make sense of stories, and how do people use stories to make sense of the world? Examining narratives from different periods and across multiple media and genres, Herman shows how traditions of narrative research can help shape ways of formulating and addressing questions about intelligent activity, and vice versa.

Why so many big words?
Revisado: 05-29-19
I got this book among many others in my continued learning about storytelling and its connection to human nature. However, this book in particular is so heady it lost me. In other words, only the people who understand the jargon and the vocabulary of the writer will be able to follow his train of thought. That eliminates any layman from the equation as part of the audience. To me that’s just not good communication.
His “sense-making,” “worlding the story” here, and “storying the world” to us, as he puts it, fails to make the layman feel included in the conversation. It probably makes sense to the select few among his colleagues with his vocabulary, to them it’s probably a wonderful book. But for the first time in a topical discussion, I found that 90% of this went over my head due to its overly intellectual vocabulary.
Therefore, I couldn’t even finish the first chapter. That’s never happened to me before.
If the intent of this book was to only reach a select audience, it certainly has accomplish its goals in reaching a select few.
