My church has been discussing and praying about the Holy Spirit and being meant for more than simply attending and reading the Bible, but actually living in the precious Word of God. This books was so edifying and uplifting. Personally I struggle to forgive people who wronged me in the past and to hear how Petr was able and happy to find forgiveness for those who persecuted him was something I needed to hear. I am careful in choosing who’s council I listen to because so often you find a misguided message, but in this book I find that Petr is faithful and speaks truth.

I originally purchased this book because the title was intriguing, the sample was good and I prefer non fiction. However, I GREATLY enjoyed this book and subsequent books by the author and I also favor this narrator and have sought both out since.
I listened to all of Troost’s books, and have recommended them to countless people at this point. One person I recommended them too was a friend that grew up in the Marshall Islands and he listened to the rest as well because he said that while it was not his culture specifically, he could “hear the stories of home” when he listened. Troost’s writing is funny and Vance’s reading complete’s the package.

I think the author did a really good job explaining the entire person of all of the more important characters. I was able to empathize with them on a human level, and understand why people would be loyal to them, but the author never made the gangsters, political bosses, and hitman seem innocent. He shows them as the dynamic, and ruthless people that they are/were.

The author does a great job at livening up history with tongue and cheek humor while also capturing the desperation of the aborigines, and the poor migrants. My admiration of Australia as a place who's inhabitants succeeded in the face of strange, far flung events and an often oppressive British government that was far from the goings on of the colony, much like America, has been reinvigorated by Mr. Hunt's writings.

I listened to "A Walk In The Woods" a while back, and have put this book off for a bit because the teaser/description wasn't very promising to me. However, I soon found that I was enjoying the same things about this book as I did he first book of Mr. Bryson's that I listened to.
I like the funny little anecdotes surrounded by the interesting history and information surrounding them. Perhaps that is because it is similar to the way that I tell stories myself, but whatever the reason, I enjoy the style that he uses to tell these stories.
The only thing that I would change is the only thing that I would change about Dinesh D'Souza's books; a professional voice actor reading instead of the author. Male voices that have a high register do something unpleasant to my ears. This may just be me though.
All in all though, this did a world of good for me in that it made a country that I have dreamt of visiting more real and tangible to me, and I greatly enjoyed this book.
I also had to stop myself from taking out a loan to purchase a vast tract in the "empty center" and mining for huge mineral deposits after hearing the section of their yet untapped potential wealth of them.

Prior to this book, I listened to "Black Flags: The Rise of ISIS". I found both books to be similar in that they both distill a lot of information into a well put together linear narrative. They both seem very well researched, well written, and very informative. However, where I found them to be different was that this author seemed to have written in the style that came across as attempting to be somewhat persuasive. And books like this I always prefer an informative, neutral account I have no problem with his humanizing Siri and civilians, but found some of his word choices to be a bit soft in regards to the scribing accounts of terrorist activities, Terrorists themselves, and Fidel Castro in the epilogue.

Daniel Boone has been a personal hero of mine for a long time, but after this extensive biography, I feel that I have come to know the real Boone underneath the huge legend. I see so much of the little boy that I was in this account of Boone. Running out of the house with a pack filled with rope, a sandwich and a flashlight to follow the creek in my parent's backyard all day until dark. I have always loved the outdoors, and felt that there must certainly be something wonderful just a little deeper into the woods, or farther down the creek.I believe that many of us can connect with the yearning to live the adventures of Boone and to be as blessed as he was to come out safe in the end. Stripping away the legend, Mr. Morgan leaves the listener/reader with a simple, endearing and honest impression of Boone as he was. I appreciated that rather than explaining away or ignoring the flaws and shortcomings of Daniel Boone, the author recorded them, and put them into the context of a multifaceted person. One example was in regard to his familiarity with and seeming acceptance of slavery. He states that this goes to show that even good people, who know better, sometimes go along with what is familiar to them and accepted by society at large. He doesn't say that Boone was a saint, or a devil, but a man that tried to be a good person, and that sometimes he was a member of a society that had improvements to make.
