Disappointing
Revisado: 02-04-24
The plot and characters are unbelievable- at first I thought it was a spoof about spy novels but realized it was actually meant to be taken seriously. The narrator was awful as well- with mispronounced words and particular butchery of French place names.

Nobody needs to be told there isn’t enough time. Whether we’re starting our own business, or trying to write a novel during our lunch break, or staring down a pile of deadlines as we’re planning a vacation, we’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and ceaseless struggle against distraction. We’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient and life hacks to optimize our days.

Life changing!
Revisado: 10-30-23
This was entirely NOT the book that I was expecting- another time management book to organize my life- instead it was a refreshing new way to look at time and what gives life meaning. I highly recommend this to anyone at almost any stage in life.

I am not usually a sci-if fan but love this author- the story is beautifully written, funny and moving. Wonderful satire!

Historia
The Second World War lasted for 2,174 days, cost $1.5 trillion, and claimed the lives of more than 50 million people. Why did the Axis lose? And could they, with a different strategy, have won? Andrew Roberts's acclaimed new history has been hailed as the finest single-volume account of this epic conflict. From the western front to North Africa, from the Baltic to the Far East, he tells the story of the war - the grand strategy and the individual experience, the cruelty and the heroism - as never before.

A great analysis of world war 2
Revisado: 03-14-15
Although countless books have been written about world war 2 this is still a worthwhile addition. The author is insightful and balanced in considering the roles of the many variables that affected the outcome of the war.

Historia
The four fires in this story are passion, religion, warfare, and fire itself. While there are many more fires that drive the human spirit, love being perhaps the brightest flame of all, it is these four that have moulded us most as Australian people. The four fires give us our sense of place and, for better or for worse, shape our national character.

Aussie immersion
Revisado: 10-15-12
This was a wonderfully engaging and emotionally involving book. The account of the conditions for POW's in Borneo was heartbreaking and historically very accurate. After the book ended I felt a bit bereft without the Maloney family. Some minor quibbles with the plot - it seemed as if everyone in the family was a bit too brilliant to be believed. I don't want to give the ending away, but it was marred by a glaring violation of professional boundries that would in reality be grounds for a loss of one's license to practice medicine. Humphrey Bower reads this wonderfully - not too much or too little expression, and his command of the subtle differences in Australian accents adds to the reading.
