Historia
In 1942, the Gestapo sent out an urgent transmission: "She is the most dangerous of all Allied spies. We must find and destroy her." The target in their sights was Virginia Hall, a Baltimore socialite who talked her way into Special Operations Executive, the spy organization dubbed Winston Churchill's "Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." She became the first Allied woman deployed behind enemy lines and - despite her prosthetic leg - helped to light the flame of the French Resistance, revolutionizing secret warfare as we know it.

Historia
Nothing captures the imagination like a story. Jesus's stories were so enthralling that even his enemies forgot about time and circumstance. In the mainly post-agrarian society of today, Ellen White's work rekindles in the modern listener the same all-absorbing quality of Jesus' stories.

Best recording of one of the best books
Revisado: 10-07-21
I have loved this book for decades. The explanation of Christ’s parables in this book is life changing.
I want to review the reader too. She is excellent. She gives so much meaning to the words. I have listened to a couple other recordings of this book over the decades and this is by far the best audiobook version there is. (I would say the same about Desire of Ages by the same author and reader.)

Historia
In this deeply personal account of her fist year as a missionary, Elisabeth Elliot shares the challenges she faced as she worked in the jungles of Ecuador to bring the Word of God to a people virtually untouched by the outside world. With fascinating detail, she captures the stark realities of life in the jungle, the diffculties she encountered while developing a written language for the tribe, and her confusion when God didn't "cooperate" with her efforts to accomplish what she believed was his will.

Historia
North Korea is isolated and hungry, bankrupt and belligerent. It is also armed with nuclear weapons. Between 150,000 and 200,000 people are being held in its political prison camps, which have existed twice as long as Stalin’s Soviet gulags and twelve times as long as the Nazi concentration camps. Very few born and raised in these camps have escaped - but Shin Dong-hyuk did.

Heart rending and tough story
Revisado: 07-26-21
I learned a lot from this story and it is well written. But it is pretty rough. The things this man went through are absolutely horrific. This is the type of story to keep you awake at night.

Interesting Info—Bad Reader
Revisado: 01-17-19
This is an interesting book, but the reader is awful or else they accidentally turned his speed down in post production. The only way I could handle the book was to listen to it at 1.25 times speed and I listened to most of it at 1.5.
I am very convinced of the science presented in this book and I’m going to try to adopt the lifestyle prescribed in the book.

Before John Glenn orbited the Earth or Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, a group of dedicated female mathematicians known as "human computers" used pencils, slide rules, and adding machines to calculate the numbers that would launch rockets and astronauts into space. Among these problem solvers were a group of exceptionally talented African American women, some of the brightest minds of their generation.

Inspiring story
Revisado: 06-28-18
I am a white female engineer. I was inspired by the story of women who have paved the way for us.
I found the book to be a bit more engaging in the second half than in the first half. The way it switches between stories of ladies who have fairly similar beginnings made me a little confused at the beginning, but once it got going, it was excellent.

Historia
In 1942 one young social worker, Irena Sendler, was granted access to the Warsaw Ghetto as a public health specialist. While she was there, she began to understand the fate that awaited the Jewish families who were unable to leave. Soon she reached out to the trapped families, going from door to door and asking them to trust her with their young children. She started smuggling children out of the walled district, convincing her friends and neighbors to hide them.

Gripping
Revisado: 01-12-18
This story is amazing and so sad too. Only listen to it if you’re ready to deal with sadness. So many of Irena’s comrades die and her own life has too much sorrow. But she is definitely a hero. The author is a great writer and you can’t stop listening until it’s complete. I was so frustrated every time I had to pause.

Historia
Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles?Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you'll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever.

Better Books About Home Organization
Revisado: 04-07-17
I've read or listened to a few home organization books. I'm in a stage in my life that's had some major changes and I was looking for something to revive me in the area of home organization. But this book is weird. It turns tidying into a religion. Can't figure out why it's so popular. If you want a lesson in how to set up a shrine in your home and how to worship and talk to your things, then you'll like this book. If you feel like your things are already consuming to much of you, than find a different book. No suggestions on good ones though, off on a search for a better book.

Horrific Story
Revisado: 06-16-16
This story is well written and well read, but it's not for the squeamish. There's so much cannibalism. Of course that was too be expected considering it's a story about the Donner Party, but I found some of it too hard to listen too. It was gut wrenching for me. Had to skip through some of the book.
