Historia
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Story wasn't the best
Revisado: 10-09-23
Meh story, a lot of WTH moments where the story just felt weird and incomplete. Everything just seemed too easy, almost always hitting perfect shots or always making the perfect decision. the starting story arc with the bad guys taking over a planet solved by a someone else with a one sentence anti climatic end.
everything he does is a windfall and almost just gets handed to him on a gold platter the entire story.

A story I didn't expect to love this much
Revisado: 08-31-23
I don't often review my listens even when I complete 60 plus books every year.
This book kept popping up as a recommendation. So when there was a sale I added it to my library as something to listen too between other series.
by the end of the first book I had already picked up the next 4 books and made plans to get the rest as I had available credits.
I had a good amount of free time while traveling recently and completed 2 books in a single day. The story just sort of sucks you in Just like Michael states in all his authors notes his "Take that suckz" writing is hard to put down. You can feel his enthusiasm for the story, and Emily's narration takes it even even further.
As someone that reads to take breaks from daily life and work projects, this story is perfect as it makes me laugh and smile almost the entire time.
I hope everyone enjoys the listen as much as I do.

I am once again sad to be at the end
Revisado: 03-27-23
I have listened to all of the solar clipper tales and stories. every time I reach the end of one and there are no more I feel like something is missing.
I don't know exactly what it is about these stories that I absolutely love so much. The only thing I can think of is the simplicity of the story. It isn't an infinitely grand story or all encompassing. the way Nathan Lowell emphasizes some of the more simplistic actions of life, the making of tea, brushing sand off a stick, describing the act of thinking. it is all just simple and honestly mundane, but, they are all simply things about being alive. I think we all make our lives way more complicated than it really needs to be. these stories emphasize what it is like to be an individual, a larger community and world.
I will continue to listen to any book. Mr. Lowell writes in this world. I recommend everyone at least attempt these books one time.

Decent story... lacking in believability
Revisado: 09-08-20
example... You don't fly east from Portland to reach Norway. You would go north northeast and never cross the Rocky Mountains or almost any of the US.
there are several small things like that in the book that breaks believability in the story. you can alien tech magic a lot of stuff away... but some things you just have to do right.

I love the Dresden Files.
Revisado: 08-03-17
this will be my second time through these books. generally don't read books twice but it's been a good handful of years since I've read these and I found that by reading it again I'm actually caught on to some more subtlety in the overall story arc that I missed the first time through because this time I know the whole story. well the story that's been written so far. Looking forward to the next new book.

What did you like best about this story?
The ending actually makes me want to get the second book. Well done on the authors part to make it interesting enough.

I am happy these are available on audible. As a fan of football and SciFi this was the perfect combination for my taste. a great mix of a coming of age store, football, creative future world, and craziness of Scott Sigler to pull it all together.
I really love following the Kraken's.

Good Story, Glover was a downer
Revisado: 08-14-11
Another great story by Jim. Good ole Harry having another twisting adventure in to the unknown. But, having Glover read this was was not the best. James Marsters knew how to really make the book come alive over the 12 he had already done. The individuals seem somewhat blurred together and in some cases, Bob the Skull for example, have lost their identity all together because of the new reader.
Most books don't get to have the same reader all the way through and in most cases it doesn't hurt the story. But in the case where we have a long term reader making the change to Glover was not awesome.
Great work again Jim. Keep them coming!!! I can't wait for the next one!!!
