Ray Porter narrates with such style! Once again Andy Weir delivers an amazing story about perseverence and determination. This time he also adds an unlikely collaboration of characters that show us what we actually fight for... friendship and love. Oh and of course, this story includes a whole lot of SCIENCE and MATH!!! Those are happy exclamations! The last time I took trig and physics was about 22 years ago in high school, so rusty is an understatement, but Weir (with Porter's acting) made everything sound great and so easy. I just thought "sounds good and onward we go!".

It happens very rarely, but this book left me shaken and disrupted. The injustices that women have endured...Offred's story is not just a tale but a warning of the nature of humanity, and that we must endure to teach our youth about human rights and all the times that we went wrong, so perhaps one day we as people can finally learn.

I began the Disc World series with 'I Shall Wear Midnight', which follows the adventures a young witch or "hag" named Tiffany Aching. Since, I have been completing other Disc World novels with the same character and I just can't get enough. Terry Pratchett's stories are not only hilarious but also parrallel real life conflicts we may have encountered with society or even conflicts we may have struggled with ourselves. So in a humorous way, there is always something to learn. Listening to Pratchett's audio books was incredibly easy and was so entertaining that I preferred to listen to his novels rather than watch television. The narrarator is so incredibly talented that I could even call him " a one man show". I felt completely immersed in the novel as another character through the narrator's spectacular acting. These are amazing stories from an amazing author with an amazing narrator. Terry Pratchett, although recently departed from this world, has left behind a legacy that will forever stay in our hearts and minds.

Any additional comments?

This novel was so witty and innocent, seen from the eyes of a 17 year old girl entering womanhood, that it was too great to stop listening to. Seeing the world through Cassandra's eyes made me feel like I was part of a secret club, where all the pretenses of other characters were suddenly lifted away and their actions part of a comedy (sometimes dark). This is definitely a story I rushed to located the movie immediately after the audiobook ended just so I could relive it through a different type of sensory input.

Any additional comments?

The City of Dreaming Books is my favorite book-period. It is so well written, beautiful, funny, and strangely sad that I actually wept at the end; I didn't just produce crocodile tears but full on whole-hearted giant gasping sobs. This book is NOT for the faint of heart but for those that at office parties and social gatherings scoff at the notion of the existence of magic when engaged in "intellectual" conversation, yet when no one is looking still clap their hands just incase we may bring back a fairy or two. Walter Moers and translators 'John Brownjohn' have done a marvelous job at developing a world of strange exotic creatures and making them believable all the while revealing such humble and beautiful concepts such as recognizing and cherishing the talents of others, friendship, and loyalty.

I highly recommend this book and all of Walter Moers' other books from the world of Zamonia. The author of this audio book was absolutely magnificent. He took on the task of reading an epic adventure and in the process brought this colorful book even more to life if that could even be thought possible.
