Historia
An escaped cannibal, a family curse...and Reginald Worcester turning up on the doorstep. Could things get any worse for the Baskerville-Smythe family? As the bodies pile up, only a detective with a rare brain - and Reggie's is so rare it's positively endangered - can even hope to solve the case. But...there is the small matter that most of the guests aren't who they say they are, the main suspect has cloven feet, and a strange mist hangs over great Grimdark Mire. Luckily, the young master has Reeves, his automaton valet, and Emmeline, his suffragette fiancée, on hand to assist.

A missed opportunity
Revisado: 04-09-22
What an idea! Combine Wodehouse and Doyle for a mashup of Jeeves and Holmes!
Unless:
it's not funny, none of the Wodehouse wit
the mystery descends quickly into slapstick
The characters aren't developed; the Wooster character seems just stupid.

Historia
Stranger in a Strange Land is the epic saga of an earthling, Valentine Michael Smith, born and educated on Mars, who arrives on our planet with “psi” powers—telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, telekinesis, teleportation, pyrolysis, and the ability to take control of the minds of others—and complete innocence regarding the mores of man. After his tutelage under a surrogate father figure, Valentine begins his transformation into a kind of messiah.

A flawed classic
Revisado: 01-23-21
There was a time in my life when this author and this book in particular had great impact on me. Returning to it many years later, I become all too aware of its flaws, its use of Ayn Rand's philosophy, its depiction of every adolescent boy's narcissistic dream, and its inconsistent attitude toward authority. (Any social authority is suspicious or rejected, every assertion of personal preference or desire becomes essential.)
Of course the writing is very good, and the performance here is flawless. But, although in the past that would cover numerous sins, the continuous passages where the author gets to extensive views on his randian views gets tiresome and has one wishing for a good editor (or maybe this is the later edition published after the author's death and includes all those passages previously edited out?)

In a wonderful amalgam of clinical family history and personal testimony, the author lays out a archetypal dysfunctioning family, leading to Greek tragedy on a national and global scale

Historia
Felix Castor is a freelance exorcist, and London is his stomping ground. It may seem like a good ghostbuster can charge what he likes and enjoy a hell of a lifestyle, but there's a risk: sooner or later he's going to take on a spirit that's too strong for him. When Castor accepts a seemingly simple ghost-hunting case at a museum in the shadowy heart of London, what should have been a perfectly straightforward exorcism is rapidly turning into the Who Can Kill Castor First Show, with demons and ghosts all keen to claim the big prize.

Hard-boiled exorcist
Revisado: 01-29-20
At one point in this story, reference is made to Raymond Chandler, one of the great writers of hard-boiled detective fiction. This is only fitting, even though this story takes place in world of ghosts, demons, zombies, and loup-garous.

Historia
Hamilton Cleek is a detective known as "the man of the forty faces" for his incredible skill at disguise, the power to transform his face and mimic any mannerism he desires. Cleek is based in Clarges Street, London, where he is constantly consulted by Inspector Narkom of Scotland Yard. Hamilton Cleek is a comical figure, not only for his ability to impersonate anyone but for his physical derring-do and his frequent melodramatic encounters with Margot, "Queen of the Apaches", and her partner-in-crime Merode.

From the Gold Age
Revisado: 01-15-20
Writing from the days when authors were paid by the word, this melodrama mystery shows its age. A story that tends to wander, a hero with q secret skill that seldom shows up in the course of the story, and the various characters that show little depth, . The ""riddle" of the title is solved quickly half way thru, and more or less ignored after that. Fun, for all hat, but patience is necessary.

Asimov's masterwork
Revisado: 11-23-19
It would seem at first that The Foundation Trilogy is too big, too complex, to fit into a radio drama. This proves right in this case unfortunately. This adaptation, while good in itself, seems rushed and hectic at times. Technical problems also makes much of the dialog hard to hear or understand. Sound effects ultimately become annoying. Those already familiar with the story might find it satisfactory, but, for the rest of us, the similarity of the voices, that sound effect present in the background, plus suspicions that we are listening to an abridged version, makes this a disappointing version.
