if not for the healer, each character would have died in nearly every fight. these are fighters who we are made to believe are very competent, but are constantly making mistakes and even the same mistakes more than once.

My new favorite series

I have almost 200 books on Audible now, and while I love most of them, this series is more. It goes above and beyond my expectations for fantasy novels. I'm always curious to see what's next. the characters are all amazing. I can't wait for more.

The writing is not good

I was hoping the author would have improved his writing in the second book, but he did not. some of the conversations between characters are just wacky and make little sense. idk I got through 4 chapters and can't continue

It's good enough.

The overall story? interesting
the Narrator? a bit too quick. I found it more enjoyable at .75 speed.
The writing? seems pretty inconsistent. good/bad

there is a point in the book where the MC is asked to listen to a Character and her struggle with a decision. and wow... the dialog here was laughable.
the resolution of this conflict was the MC just basically saying "cmon, just do it for me." lol and she made the decision right then on the spot.

I swear the MC has jedi mind powers or something.
hopefully the author gets better in the next book.

There are some things that bother me.

I really like the overall story of this book and the previous one so far.
As a fan of Dragons and all things related, I'm frustrated with the lack of visual description of the dragon characters. There's hardly anything, except how they supposedly walk on their hind legs. I find that odd. what color are their scales/eyes? what shape are their horns? do all dragons look the exact same in this world?
The dragons are why I'm here honestly. I'm a little disappointed they are so vague.

the excellent sound design, the top notch narration, the enthralling story, the hilarious jokes. it's got it all.
I loved the references to other books and games.
there was a scene near the end of the book that was so well done it gave me chills. I can't wait for more.

These books have very quickly become some of my favorite. They're so much fun. Probably will listen through multiple times.

Too many Characters.

I really like this series and some of its characters. The problem for me though, is that it feels like I'm always having to listen through conversations of minor characters. There's just a lot of characters, and it subtracts development for the characters that matter. All in all it was a fun story but I think I'm going to stop here.

Interesting and fun.

Overall I'd say this is my second favorite book of the series. It's quick and to the point but I didn't feel like it was rushed. I would have liked some scenes to be more elaborate and fleshed out, but I don't think it was absolutely necessary.
The Narrator wasn't bad, I could always tell who was talking based on the voices. I didn't exactly like some of them though. not bad.
I'm excited to learn more about this world the author has made.
