Historia
All the best ingredients are here: an idyllic cruise in an exotic setting, a beautiful young woman on her honeymoon, a shocking murder with suspects galore. Fortunately Hercule Poirot is on the scene, thanks to a cruise holiday on the River Nile, and he exercises all his "little grey cells" in probing the passengers' airtight alibis. This most challenging mystery is known to be the author's personal favorite.

No other narrative from within the corridors of power has offered as frank and intimate an account of the making of the modern Chinese nation as Ji Chaozhu's The Man on Mao's Right. Having served Chairman Mao Zedong and the Communist leadership for two decades, and having become a key figure in China's foreign policy, Ji now provides an honest, detailed account of the personalities and events that shaped today's People's Republic.

Excellent!

I've been a member since 10/07 and have heard (read) over 30 books since then. The overwhelming majority have been of the non-fiction, historical type. That being said, I just finished a few days with this one and, for the 1st time, went directly to my computer to write this review. This is an absolutely amazing book. It is well-written (after all, the author went to Harvard, not me), well-narrated, and this is an exceptional story. I can't recommend this one highly enough.....it is the best one I've experienced. Get it!

Inspired by the work of Psychologist Erich Fromm, who asserted that the fear of freedom propels anxiety-ridden people into authoritarian settings, Blumenthal explains in a compelling narrative how a culture of personal crises has defined the radical right, transforming the Republican party for the next generation and setting the stage for the future of American politics.

Everyone with a brain should get this book. I couldn't stop listening to it. It was packed tightly with information and read very well. A must listen to fully appeciate their insanity and what we, as a country and a people, are really dealing with. I came away with a new understanding (and I am already well-informed) of truly how much money and how out of their minds the Right really is.......that they're nuts and dangerous!

Historia
At the end of the last century, Johnstown, Pennsylvania, was a booming coal-and-steel town filled with hardworking families striving for a piece of the nation's burgeoning industrial prosperity. In the mountains above Johnstown, an old earth dam had been hastily rebuilt to create a lake for an exclusive summer resort patronized by the tycoons of that same industrial prosperity, among them Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick, and Andrew Mellon.

This one I think is good but I'd like to really hear it. The sound is quality is poor. I am a quarter way through it, and may not finish. Don't waste your money. It's a shame they apparently can't improve the sound.

Historia
Before the White House and Air Force One, before the TV ads and the enormous rallies, there was the real Barack Obama: A man wrestling with the momentous decision to run for the presidency, feeling torn about leaving behind a young family, and figuring out how to win the biggest prize in politics. This book is the previously untold and epic story of how a political newcomer with no money and an alien name grew into the world’s most powerful leader. But it is also a uniquely intimate portrait of the person behind the iconic posters and the Secret Service code name Renegade.

Get It!!
Revisado: 11-26-09
Full disclosure: I am a Progressive and I supported Obama in the presidential campaign and I continue to support him. That being said, this book was wonderful to listen to, a fantastic book that was written very well and read like a good novel! It held my interest right through from beginning to end, and I am well-informed to begin with. The narratation was outstanding. Overall, I had a very positive experience with it!

Written and Researched Well
Revisado: 05-01-09
I just finished today this audiobook and must say that I enjoyed it a great deal. But, as the title reflects, there is one important caveat: to like it you must care about the subject matter. I certainly cared a lot about it as I was a young man in the 60's and thus maintain a vague memory of most of the events. This book provides a well-done filling in of the details. It held my interest and I was sorry that it ended.
However, I can almost hear someone say: "who cares"? The author delves into almost excruciating detail, so be prepared for that. The narrator is good. In summary, if you are a student of the 1960's get this and listen to it. You won't be sorry. Just be careful.
