Historia
Some places seem too beautiful to be touched by horror. Summit Lake, nestled in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, is that kind of place. But two weeks ago, Becca Eckersley, a first-year law student and daughter of a powerful attorney, was brutally murdered there. Now the town is reeling with grief, and the police are baffled.

Help me out please
Revisado: 11-13-22
**Spoiler** I've just finished Summit Lake. I'm surprised I stuck it out to the end though. The main thing that confused me was Brad's suicide. I listen to books with Audible. Sometimes, I miss things and have to go back and listen again. I wasn't invested enough in this book to do that. However. when Brad was found in the shed at the end of the book, I was scratching my head. I thought for sure I heard that Brad hung himself in his apartment after receiving all of the letters refusing to accept him into law school. Did that happen?

I loved this story!
Revisado: 10-17-21
In my opinion, Linda Lavin was the only person who could've read this book. She brought so much life to the characters with her accents, phrasing and flow. It didn't even sound like she was reading. To me, it was as if she was really just telling her life story to a grandchild.
The story of Addie and her family was very interesting. I learned so much about the different ethnic groups Addie interacted with. The friendships she made and kept for years and years gave me hope that I will able to do the same.

Historia
When Elwood Curtis, a black boy growing up in 1960s Tallahassee, is unfairly sentenced to a juvenile reformatory called the Nickel Academy, he finds himself trapped in a grotesque chamber of horrors. Elwood’s only salvation is his friendship with fellow “delinquent” Turner, which deepens despite Turner’s conviction that Elwood is hopelessly naive, that the world is crooked, and that the only way to survive is to scheme and avoid trouble.

Thank God that's over!
Revisado: 04-21-21
This was a huge disappointment. I expected more from a Harlan Coben book. By the time I was three quarters of the way through, I didn't even care about what happened to Natalie. In fact, I just finished the book 10 minutes ago, and I can't remember how everything came together. I don't recommend this one.

When her husband of more than 20 years is away on one of his business trips, Darcy Anderson looks for batteries in the garage. It’s a horrifying discovery, rendered with bristling intensity, and it definitively ends a good marriage.

This was a very different Stephen King story. I guess I expected a strange twist. It held my attention, but the narrator's phrasing and slow speech sounded robotic at times.

Historia
Little girls are hardwired to hold their daddies in high esteem, so it comes as a shock the first time a daughter feels the back of her daddy's hand across her face... or watches him punch and kick her mother to within an inch of her life. How could this be? Her older sisters teach her how to survive, even when he comes for her in the night. A girl learns to become invisible, to look the other way, to say nothing when a curious stranger asks if she's okay. To lie. To expect nothing, not even from relatives. To cry without tears. To pray silently.

Moving Story
Revisado: 11-24-20
This book had to be narrated by the author. She had to tell her own story. It made the experience so much more personal. How she survived her abuse is a testament to her own strength, courage, and faith in God. Never once did she ask, "why, God?" Many people question or curse God when horrible things happen to children. If He loved children so much, why would He make Fran and her siblings endure such pain? Maybe it was to bring her closer to him. Her faith is astounding and most certainly got her through her hardships. I feel as if the reunion happened at just the right time. Fran and her siblings struggled with their demons throughout their lives. Perhaps they wouldn't have been ready to bear their old wounds had they met sooner. Fran's father was indeed a monster. However, I can't help but wonder if the beatings and head trauma he received while in the CCC camp and in bar fights might have led to his violent behavior. Many former football players encounter chronic traumatic encephalopathy from years of head injuries. He exhibited many symptoms: depression, impulsive behavior, poor judgement, emotional instability and substance abuse. I guess I want to believe that something caused his erratic behavior, rather than believing he took pleasure in dominating, bullying and hurting his own family. Regardless, Fran's ability to forgive her father is commendable. Hearing the resolve in her voice and her wish to be closer to God, shows that although her father attempted to break her, her faith won out. I thank her for sharing her story.

Throughout this book, Odie tells the story of the four vagabonds to entertain his travel companions. Listening to this book on Audible, I felt like William Kent Krueger was sitting beside me, warming himself by a campfire doing the same. Excellent storytelling.

I've Read All Five
Revisado: 06-07-20
I read the four previous Kate Wise mysteries on my Kindle. For something different, I listened to this on Audible. I have to admit, I just didn't care for the narrator. I don't feel like she read fluently. Her phrasing and emphasis on words seemed odd. She also over pronounced words making her sound unnatural. I've never heard the word been pronounced like 'bean.' It was very distracting. I don't know if the Riley Paige series has the same narrator, but I'm sticking with actually reading those rather than listening.

It All Came Together Well
Revisado: 04-28-20
I didn't care for the narrating in the first part of the book. It seemed forced and the phrasing was strange. It was as if she was trying a little too hard. Voices, accents and inflection are important in catching and keeping my intetest. I almost stopped listening to move on to another book.
Then Niall earned his voice. That changed everything. The story really picked up. I enjoyed how things developed and concluded. I was taken by surprise, and I loved it.
