I absolutely LOVE this topic and the offerings from Great Courses but I couldn't make it far in this selection due to the voice inflections and constantly high tambour of her voice. If that won't bother you I strongly recommend this as a listen though.

Historia
The thrilling conclusion to The Extinction Files is finally here! In 2003, the first human genome was sequenced. But the secrets it held were never revealed. The truth was discovered 30 years ago, almost by accident. Dr. Paul Kraus had spent his entire career searching for what he called humanity's lost tribes - human ancestors who had gone extinct. When Kraus compared the DNA samples of the lost tribes with our own, he found a pattern of changes: a code. At the time, the technology didn't exist to unravel what it meant. Kraus hid his work and disappeared.

Could have been a lot better
Revisado: 10-16-22
I'm going to be straightforward and make the statement that I think this is the worst thing ever written by this author. It felt rushed, there were so many holes in the plot, and even though it's science fiction it was beyond unbelievable. I enjoyed the first book in this series and was interested how he would bring it all together. This was a complete waste of time. Additionally, the narrator, who is typically rather good, did some accents for the characters that made them completely unbearable. Lynn, for example, sounds like a a perpetually angry Nazi... reminiscent of a character from Austin Powers. I'm going to take a break from this author so I can recover from this abomination.

Garbage
Revisado: 01-24-20
I was very interested in learning more about this young person and their struggles and how they overcame them. However, I felt that this was misrepresented. It's not just a story about a child that overcame terrible trauma but it is a a book about an indigo child with a keen sense of entitlement. Obnoxious. Absolutely terrible. I couldn't finish it. Maybe it gets better but I had to stop. to add on top of that the narration is very whiny and the inflection is repetitive. not good.

Narrator Struggles with Female voices
Revisado: 09-01-19
Overall the story is pretty solid and actually quite enjoyable. The other reviews seem to cover that rather well. What I want to address is the fact that the narrator is absolutely terrible at female voices. I mean, come on, does he really think that women sound so whiny and like they're going to burst into tears at any second? It's so cringy that I almost had to give up on this. The story makes up for it but I will never listen to another series by this narrator again.

Pleasant story, distractingly inaccurate narration
Revisado: 06-10-19
I found the story to be similar to the feel of one of those old timey movies from the '40s that are set in Italy. It's an interesting enough plot line with moments of passion. However, I struggled because I was so distracted by the narrator. She does have a lovely voice. But she is absolutely incapable of doing an American accent and it was very distracting. Also, her Italian accent for the main character was way too over the top for somebody that was supposed to have spent the last 26 years of his life in the United States, since the age of 14. It was just ridiculous. Also, I know this is kind of nitpicky but she has very predictable and repetitive inflection patterns.

Set in Australia...
Revisado: 06-08-19
Other than the fact that the plot has about a million holes and the characters aren't really likable and any kind of way, the most annoying thing about this book is that it is clearly set in Australia but done with straight American accents. Lame.

Campy, cheesey, horrible
Revisado: 06-03-19
There is nothing that can redeem this book. The story is weak and cringe worthy. The narrator pronounces words wrong no less than one dozen times and makes the whole story even more cringey with his game show host style. Ugh.

I'm so glad that I selected this as my audible original for the month. The way the story is presented through phone calls and voicemails is actually incredibly creative and effective. I tend to be a purist when it comes to audiobooks. I wasn't sure what to expect but it came together very well. Excellent writing and excellent performances!

This is where I depart this series...
Revisado: 05-30-19
I really did love most of the plot that I've listened to and the Outlander series to this point. I just CAN'T go on though. It has become tedious and almost predictable at times. Way longer than it needs to be. Steamy scenes have become mundane and blah.
Sidenote- why is it that no one is talking about how terrible of a person Jamie is? Seriously. He's not a good person. He does terrible things and is abusice. He may have redeeming qualities in some areas but overall I would not say that I find him to be that attractive because of his lack of moral character at times. I find it hard to see the appeal in a man that doesn't respect his wife. well, if he does respect her he sure doesn't show it properly. Yes, I know that some people are going to say that it was a different type of culture back then and author was just going based off of historic accuracy but gosh darn do I find this so obnoxious. I can't follow his journey anymore. I just don't like him.
The performance is still absolutely wonderful though. I think the narrator has really made this series something special.
