Historia
What happens when the President of the United States governs one Tweet at a time? When the elected leader of the free world may not have a firm grasp on the names of government agencies, much less an understanding of their intricate inner-workings? In the days following the 2016 inauguration, government personnel searched for answers that didn’t exist, while White House staff scoured halls for employees who would never be appointed.

Where is the Michael Lewis of Liars Poker, Moneyball and The Big Short? This book is just an homage to the administrative State. Just like in Premonition, Lewis lends his awesome writing skills to our Washington overlords. Really sad. I tried to return the book but Audible didn't allow it. Lost a credit.

Historia
Principles of Economics is a university-level textbook in economics that offers a clear and concise exploration of the most important economic concepts. This book is unapologetically Austrian in its approach. It tackles major economic concepts and topics independently, but in a logical sequence aimed at delivering the listener an understanding of economics at an individual and societal level, and the widespread implications of economics as a topic.

Economics as it should be taught
Revisado: 10-27-23
It’s a shame that Economics is still taught in universities with Keynesian text books and the subject is treated as a natural science. Econometric models with negligible coefficient of determination are forced down students’ throats. Saifedean’s book is more useful than a full mainstream Economics course. Strongly recommend.

Historia
Springtime for Snowflakes: 'Social Justice' and Its Postmodern Parentage is a daring and candid memoir. NYU Professor Michael Rectenwald - the notorious @AntiPCNYUProf - illuminates the obscurity of postmodern theory to track down the ideas and beliefs that spawned the contemporary social justice creed and movement. In fast-paced creative non-fiction, Rectenwald begins by recounting how his Twitter capers and media exposure met with the swift and punitive response of NYU administrators and fellow faculty members.

Professor Rectenwald delivers an important message to both academic and lay audiences.
The narrator could have been a little more diligent to find out the correct pronunciation of Foucault, Derrida and Mises.

The Bolsheviks promised that they were building a new society, a workers’ paradise that would change the nature of mankind itself. What they ended up constructing was the largest prison the world had ever seen: a Union of Soviet Socialist Republics that spanned half the globe.

Historia
In this fascinating deep dive into the evolution of monetary systems around the globe, Nik Bhatia takes us into the origins of how money has evolved to function in a “layered” manner. Using gold as an example of this term, he traces the layers of this ancient currency from raw mined material, to gold coins, and finally to bank-issued gold certificates. In a groundbreaking manner, Bhatia offers a similar paradigm for the evolution of digital currencies.

Excellent book. Monetary theory put simply, yet with all necessary rigor.
I just didn’t like the narrator switching to a fake British-like accent in every quote, even when quoting American individuals.

Historia
For those who could read between the lines, the censored news out of China was terrifying. But the president insisted there was nothing to worry about. Fortunately, we are still a nation of skeptics. Fortunately, there are those among us who study pandemics and are willing to look unflinchingly at worst-case scenarios. Michael Lewis’ taut and brilliant nonfiction thriller pits a band of medical visionaries against the wall of ignorance that was the official response of the Trump administration to the outbreak of COVID-19.

Pure propaganda
Revisado: 09-23-21
Very well written, as all of Michael Lewis’s books, but the political bias is very obvious. The author does everything to justify the pseudo science behind social distancing and lockdowns. Reminds me of the argument used to defend fiscal or monetary stimulus: “just do some thing, if it didn’t work, you just didn’t do enough of it.”
The weirdest thing is that he acknowledges the governments’ total incompetence to deal with a crisis as serious as the one we just faced. But then what does he call for? More government!

Historia
America’s struggling economy needs a better philosophy than the college student’s lament,“I can’t be out of money, I still have checks in my checkbook!” We've tried a government spending spree, and we've learned it doesn't work. Now is the time to rededicate our country to the pursuit of free-market capitalism, before we’re buried under a mound of debt and unfunded entitlements. But how do we navigate between government spending that’s too big to sustain and financial institutions that are "too big to fail?"

Revisado: 06-21-21
Great book. The chapters on California and banking are outstanding.
But the author is so concerned with criticizing anyone that diverges even slightly with him that sometimes misses the big picture. His analysis of the Austrian school is flawed and doesn’t recognize the entrepreneur’s central role.
