Historia
For those looking for the real story behind the fictionalized movie account of the 47 Ronin story, this is the definitive, fascinating account of this unforgettable tale of a band of samurai who defied the Emperor to avenge the disgrace and death of their master, and faced certain death as a result. It led to one of the bloodiest episodes in Japanese history, and in the process, created a new set of heroes in Japan.

Interesting Incite into Samurai
Revisado: 09-11-23
Code of the samurai revealed in a unique story of early 18th century Japan. Great depth of characters, revealing their thoughts, feelings and motivations. Story bogs down a bit but but quickly excels to an exciting climax. Superior performance by the narrator. Overall, good fast moving story.

Insightful Perspective on the Civil War
Revisado: 02-16-23
Book provides a unique narrative on the war. Each chapter stands on its own with a different aspect of the people and other topics concerning the conflict. Narrative reads like series of lectures which provides many ways to look at the war that I never thought about or previous believed differently. The narrator is excellent making for an easy listen. The book allows for listening to a few chapters at a time and picking up where you left off with no difficulty as each chapter is a story in itself. Thoroughly enjoyable to listen to and revealed things about the war or provided a new way for me perceive the people involved in it or events that I never thought about before. Overall, those interested in the war will enjoy the book and may learn something new or make you look at the war in a different way.

Comparison to Book
Revisado: 09-10-21
1st. person narrative main difference. No police investigation which does add to the movie. Interesting parallels to today's political climate. More violent than movie except for original crime that motivates protagonist (not in book). Good but a little slow at beginning. Most intriguing part psychologist profile in magazine article. Liked book and recommend if you saw the movie or not. Quick read. Narration very good but main character does not bring to mind Charles Bronson.

Nostalgic for the Film
Revisado: 02-04-21
Enjoyable rendition of the classic movie. Mostly a verbal description of the movie itself. It just made me wish I was watching the movie.
A few sequences that differ from the film were interesting. Narration made it an enjoyable listen, giving characters a unique voice.
Some of the narrative seemed forced to give it the sound of a novel, which having seen the movie, makes it a little awkward.
Overall, if you liked the film or loved it, as I do, it's worth a listen. However, it's an impossible task capture the raw power of the film, "King Kong".

Historia
Historians have said that World War II was a continuation of World War I, but with greater violence and less regard for the values of civilization. The Treaty of Versailles, which had officially ended WWI, had caused the European balance of power to swing wildly. Germany had been stripped of her colonies, divided into pieces, and burdened with a staggering war debt. New nations were created; old hostilities were renewed. Some of these hostilities had found a voice in a new political philosophy: fascism.

Historia
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.
