Historia
Mildred Pierce had gorgeous legs, a way with a skillet, and a bone-deep core of toughness and determination. She used those attributes to survive a divorce in 1940s America with two children and to claw her way out of poverty, becoming a successful businesswoman. But Mildred also had two weaknesses: a yen for shiftless men and an unreasoning devotion to her monstrous daughter.

Couldn't stand the narration
Revisado: 12-29-22
To me, this was very different from what I expected. It's the story of a mother who is unnaturally obsessed with her selfish daughter to her own detriment. The narrator was awful. Do not recommend.

Couldn't stand the narration
Revisado: 07-03-22
The story is not up to so many of the other Dumas books that I have read. A bit predictable, but still Dumas. I wanted to read it but could not get used to this narrator. I ended up buying a different narrator, and it was a relief. This narrator is not one I will be interested in hearing again. The narrator can make or break a book for me.

This is a wonderful story and narration, spoiled only by poor editing. Such a shame because it is otherwise so good.

Historia
The story delicately balances the concerns of the Mellstock parish choir with a romance between Dick Dewy, a member of the choir, and Fancy Day, the village schoolmistress. While the choir battles for its survival against the new vicar's mechanical church organ, personal conflicts arise over the anachronistic customs of tradition.

"Unvarnished. Funny. Leaving no stone unturned"...So say the publishers about this audiobook I've written. What I say is that this is the story of my life, told as clear as a Texas sky and in the same rhythm that I lived it. It's a story of restlessness and the purity of the moment and living right. Of my childhood in Abbott, Texas, to the Pacific Northwest, from Nashville to Hawaii, and all the way back again. Of selling vacuum cleaners and encyclopedias while hosting radio shows and writing song after song, hoping to strike gold.

I struggled to finish this. I used to like Willie, but not anymore! He seems to think that he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I found him to be selfish, self indulgent and self centered. Oh, well.

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Historia
To all appearances, Dan Chase is a harmless retiree in Vermont with two big mutts and a grown daughter he keeps in touch with by phone. But most 60-year-old widowers don't have multiple driver's licenses, savings stockpiled in banks across the country, and a bugout kit with two Beretta Nanos stashed in the spare bedroom closet. Most have not spent decades on the run.

Revisado: 06-26-19
I tried to get through this book, I really did. But this narrator is terrible. With his whispering and the same weird accent for every character, I found him increasingly irritating. I think I will just read the book the old fashioned way and see if it's any better.

Historia
Lucy Honeychurch and her older cousin, Miss Bartlett, tour Italy in the springtime. However, the pension they are staying at may as well be in London. The proprietress speaks a London cockney, the meat is overdone, and their windows give them a view of dirty alleys. However, when the socially clumsy Mr. Emerson offer to exchange rooms, this does anything but remedy the situation. You see, nobody knows what to make of the Emersons. It's so hard to know how to respond to people who speak the truth.
