Everything started the night after Jo’s mother was buried. When someone tried to kill her and she was pulled into something bigger than the mortal world she’d grown up in. That was when she met Caius, a powerful and dangerous demon hybrid. She doesn’t know why he helped save her life that night; she only knows what she’s been told: The demonborn are enemies.

Overall, this was an ok enough book for me. I enjoyed some parts of it and other parts I was just bored. I listened to the audiobook for this one and the narrator did a very good job!
The book had a good start and showed potential. Until, I started losing focus and interest in it. At least, for me. Jo and her sister lost their mom and they soooon find out about their otherness and this entire new world. They find out they are reapers and that their absentee father was an angel. Thus, begins their new journey into this world. Although, we barely get to "see" her sister.
For me, details are off about what is explained and what is not. Parts I found tedious, were unnecessary details about food - as in what exactly Jo was eating down to the alfredo fettuccini or the every.single.appetizers they ordered. But, one line was used to explaining about they received training and voila a year has passed. I would have liked to "see" some of it as in what badassery training she was received. I honestly did not care about the food she ate.
Another thing I found different in this was the attempt to be having dual point of view but it really wasn't. Randomly, I would get Caius's one liners at the end of Jo's scene. It would appear like Caius was there/invisible with his one liner input on her scene/decision but he truly wasn't as they were on two separate sides (demon). So I wasn't sure what the point of it was. It felt random to me. Although, the narrator Zachary had an amazing Caius voice, lol.
By the end of it all, I was more curious about and ready to finish the book vs. having a connection with the characters. There is no insta-love which is great. But there is also not enough chemistry, for me, between characters. Maybe, book 2 brings them together better with better dialogue. That's just my opinion.

The narration was done really well and it added to the story element. I wasn't sure what to expect from this story but it took me by surprise. I enjoyed the story and the characters. It is a well done enemies to lover type storyline....however, it is definitely story driven.

Welcome to Evermore Academy where the magic is dark, the immortals are beautiful, and being human sucks. My name is Summer Solstice and this is going to be my year. Except, in the Everwilde, nothing ever goes according to plan. When the Spring Court heir joins the academy, he traps me in a cutthroat game of bargains and deception in an effort to ruin Valerian. This book does not disappoint....
Revisado: 10-14-20
Damn, this book!!! This is the second installment in the Evermore series and definitely makes you coming back for more! Not to mention, how gorgeous is the cover? Yes, we get an explanation for it as well in the book. I like it when covers also make part of the story somehow. The narration is on point!! She does an amazing job again to give a voice to all the characters and the appropriate emotions.
This book continues soon after where Winter left off. Summer, is back at Evermore for a new year and she is definitely on a tight leash cuz of all the incidents from her previous year. She is stronger and more of a badass when she returns for year 2....or so we have been told. I was a tad confused about her attending Summer court during her break but there was no mention prior to this or later as to why? However, let's just say, she keeps up ending in the middle of stuff either from her own choice or some a-holes not leaving her alone. But I like she doesn't back down and only gets stronger and more determined to get back at the fae who wronged her and her loved ones! Go Summer!! Kickass!!
We have a new and despicable character Spring Court Prince Hellebore. He makes her life miserable along with her usual list of Inara and her passe. Dude is seriously messed up and he has an agenda. What? Well, you just have to read and find out ;)
Lots of things are happening. She's still struggling with her soulbond to the Winter Prince. He is less of an a-hole here and is definitely keen on solidifying the bond she shares with him. However, Summer is struggling with her human emotions and wants more than just automatic pull of the bond bringing them closer. As the story progresses so does their interaction throughout the book. I wish there was more Winter Prince around but he was also missing for parts of the book. We do find out what he was up to. But it seemed he wasn't attending school like rest of the fae. I was a tad confused at times.
I love Mack. She is definitely growing as a character as well. She is struggling in her own way but it is understandable. Her and Asher are cute but I would have definitely liked a bit more for them. Eclipsa, is badass and is definitely more in this book. I liked how she is helping Summer train and get better at it.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I would have preferred a bit more fleshed out scenes/details shown for certain things vs. being told --it happened x days ago. More showing less telling....works better for me. However, this book definitely kept you on edge as to - you know something is going to happen but you're not sure when and how....but know it is coming. Yeah, things happen and how they happen ultimately, leading to a mofo cliffhanger that I'm not sure how it will pan out. Some questions get answered. More pop up, of course. I hated some characters. Others were predictable and vindictive. We get to meet the Summer queen and jury is still out on her. We shall see.........
Go read it. Then we can all virtual hug each other!!

Revisado: 07-21-20
This book whizzed by. I was finished before even I realized I was at the end. Short, fast and cliffhangers. Audio book again for this one. I do like the narrator and she has done well.
The book again starts pretty much right after book 2. Remi is struggling with everything again with revelations about her brother. She's learning more and more about the academy secrets and life. Life is not the same anymore and it just gets more complicated when her secret is outed in the most public way. More questions, betrayals and intrigue. This is how she finds herself. She is confused and pretty much lashing out at Laith and just being moody, in general. I must say I was confused as well about how fast this ended and I was left with more frustrations and questions. Dean Mardone adds more complications and that was an interesting addition of a new character. I was not expecting that. Laithe, Victoria and some others were mostly missing from here. Winter, well...she is interesting we find out another tidbit new ability about her. I have not warmed up to her BUT, she has potential. Oh and there is another secret society....don't have much information about it.
Of course, the book ended at yet another cliffhanger AND ended abruptly for me. I am not sure where the next book leads and I do want to find out. They have me weirdly intrigued.

An ok read for me....
Revisado: 07-21-20
This one was a hard one for me to get into and eventually, rate. I was pretty confused a lot and struggled to follow. I was lucky to get the audiobook and I must say, the narrator did well. I am not a fan of male narrators in general (in my little experience with male narrators) cuz I find it hard to get into the female voices as the male tones are generally, deeper. It just never clicks. However, this book being in Thane's voice, who is a dweller, the male narration was a must. So, overall, narration was very well done.
The story, however, was confusing for me because it felt I got started into a world I have no idea about. It felt like book two, world building wise. There wasn't much world building which failed for me to imagine what was going on. I could not connect to any characters and thus, for me, it just was a struggle. I did not feel invested in anyone. Although, Thane (dweller) and Jacob (human) grew up on me eventually. Their souls are melded and it leads to complications eventually. Cynthia, was an interesting character and played somewhat imp roll but I was also confused by their loyalties.
The story is fantasy filled with Gods being all power hungry (what's new?) and dwellers souls there to serve their Gods. Eventually, truth is outed and thus, begins the struggle for Thane and accepting it for what it is and figuring out how to right the wrongs.

An interesting read...
Revisado: 07-03-20
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I got a bit of stepford wives feels to it only with a twist. The narrator did a great job with her voice and emotions at the right moment.
Story is about the Reverians, who are humans that can dream travel and possess gifts or abilities along with it. Some folks are, however, defects or folks with no abilities but can dream travel. And rest are just plain old humans (middling) with no abilities or dream traveling ability and they are looked down upon. The president aka dictator of the reverians controls or rules their world with an iron fist along with this trusted advisors. They are cunning and ruthless....we definitely find out how much as the story unfolds.
The FMC, Em Fuller, is a defect and definitely feels the pressure from her parents and older sibling about being an outcast. I hated how they treated her and especially, her older sister. I wanted to slap her every time she spoke. Her father was awful and the president's right hand man. Being classified as a "defect" she and everyone else like her have been receiving an injection that they hope will cure them. Her Parents & her sister loathe her for being an embarrassment to the family. How she ends up being a better person and stronger despite her "defect"....I highly recommend you read it.
Romance, I know there is light romance in there with Rogue. However, I wasn't feeling it much. Maybe cuz this is not a romance driven book. Which is ok but, I wanted that deep connection usually I see with characters...I just did not see it. That's just me.
Plot really takes off in the middle and keeps on rolling as it ends. The closer it got to the end I was on edge to see how it would pan out. I was totally feeling the tension and not knowing how it would end. Things definitely ended with a bang and damn, it was great. I hate president Vider and Em's father. I really hope they get what's coming to them. They are horrible people and I hope they get exposed!!
I liked Em's uncle. Too bad I did not see more of him. I was hoping he would help somehow but his character is still a bit shady and not sure which side he would bend. Although, it seems he does get couple brownie points for now!!
I definitely want to read book 2 and find out what is going to happen. I want to see Em's growth as she was still a lot sheltered when the book began and sounded a bit naive here and there. But considering her upbringing...it was somewhat acceptable. Her youngest sister, Nona...she is kickass. I hope she survives and helps out in a big way!

Fast, entertaining and fun read...
Revisado: 06-05-20
I really, really enjoyed this book. I had 0 expectations and I was pleasantly surprised. It grabbed my attention pretty fast. First time, I actually read the book. And 2nd time I received the audiobook version for an honest review. I must say, the narrator did an amazing job with her voice for various characters and emotions at the right moment.
Lately, I'd been feeling off with all the books not grabbing my attention. I decided to "re-read" this book via the audiobook and I am glad that I did. It got me excited even though I knew how things were going to happen. I definitely enjoyed it better as I wasn't rushing through to find out what was going to happen, lol.
Summer, is a likable character. She is human and her world is turned upside in a blink of an eye. All actions have consequences and sometimes we're pushed so close to the edge that we don't have much of a choice. The winter prince, is revered, a douche (is there any other kind?), powerful, moody, and irresistible. He has his reasons of course....but, I definitely enjoyed the chemistry between Summer and the Prince. The academy set up is simple and world building is simplistic yet, gives out enough information for us to keep it entertaining. This is a well placed story and no info-dump. I loved Mac's character as well and she was a good friend to Summer at the strange new Evermore academy. Ruby, her sprite was definitely an interesting character and feisty.
The cover is gorgeous and definitely see how it plays out in the story eventually. It makes ALL the sense. I had sort of guessed (at my first read) some stuff about Summer but, definitely loved how it was explained eventually. You do get some answers but there are enough questions for us to want to read the next book. There is no huge cliffhanger.
I definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys academy set up and broody princes. There are some usual tropes in the book but it did not both me. It book entertained me throughout and kept me going. I am looking forward to book 2, Spring!!

It was good enough...
Revisado: 03-10-20
Firstly, the cover is beautiful and really well done. To be honest, I had high hopes from this book for some reason. Prince, assassin, Cinderella re-telling, broken kingdom....it was a cliched good premise for a fun and engaging read or listen to. Alas, it fell short for me in many ways.
I did not realize this was a multiple book series so after that knowledge it was even more disappointing to know the details and depth left out. Another issue for me was the whole Christianity/GOD mentioned few times. I'm not an atheist and usually, don't have problems with religion per se. However, I prefer to keep outright mention of stuff out of my fantasy books unless, religious particular genre. The prince mentioned few times he is a Christian at the beginning, how folks lost their faith in God and he is grateful to God for..........(everything). In the end, there is a bit more mention of Christian content as well. I knew eventually, this wasn't for me. Again, I don't mean any disrespect to any religion. But stuff like this just puts a bad taste in my mouth and I cannot enjoy it. Subtle references I don't mind but blatant mentions like this just takes the joy out for me.
World building is barely there. I don't know much about the kingdom except the poor are suffering and for some reason the prince needs to die. What has happened for him to suffer this fate? There was no blatant reason visible to us readers. I had no connection to the world or the characters.
The whole set up is 'selection' style sort of and not. He is supposed to pick a bride and take the crown. But we barely get to meet other ladies except for 1 another. The lack of character development affected a lot of how things went in this book. While the characters (Prince, Kayden, 2 others) were likable but a whole lot of it felt left out. Prince's best friend just appeared in one of the scenes. Again there was no mention of him prior to that scene, at all.
“What if Cinderella had been sent to kill the prince?"
Well, we know right from the beginning that our FMC Kayden is an assassin and supposedly, a badass. She's on a mission to assassinate Prince Dvarius and enters the kingdom under a disguise. However, we are not shown anything about her past or how badass of an assassin she is. Throughout book she is second guessing everything about things. Not to mention, there is insta-attraction - I get it and in this story I was expecting it. However, I did not feel it at all. The lack of character development made it just meh for me. I wish we were shown a bit more about her past or world building to make it more believable for me.
Same goes for the prince. He is supposed to pick a bride from his ball and get to know them so he can make his choice. However, not much is explored with any of the other characters. The insta-attraction he feels towards Kayden also feels forced. The eventual liking/distancing again feels like oh ok, that's supposed to happen. And not smooth at all like one usually sees in some other series. He did not come across as evil or inconsiderate just lack of confidence in his own self. I failed to see why he had to "accidentally" die. We got few chapters from his POV which were good to understand more about him. Yet, we still did not get enough.
This is romance heavy and lack of everything else. Overall, it was good enough but I wanted more. Some scenes jumped for me and it was hard to keep the link. The narrator did a good job giving different voices to the few characters. I don't have any issues with that.
