Just by authors alone, I expected a decent book. Color me surprised when I was bored to tears by chapter 6. I didnt care about anything within the topic and I love me a disaster.. made Dante's Peak sound award worthy.

The introduction covers the whole book, the rest in stretching it into infomercial leng. The remainder of the book stretches the same information into infomercial length.

Would you try another book from Erika Kleinman and/or Aimee Jolson?

Kleinman? No. Absolutely NO.Jolson? It will be hard to distance her from this book but her performance was good.

Has My Life as a Dyke turned you off from other books in this genre?

This is a search for absolution. Trying to clear her conscience in case her family, husband, or church found out about her forays into the 'dark side'.

So I listened to My Life as a Dyke and all I can tell ya is.. don't bother.. it was more like 'I experimented but really prefer guys' book and she (the author) was a kid.. fledgling sixteen year old adventures, Finding alternatives to immature boys with butch dykes.If you are looking for an uplifting book that helps you accept who you are then do NOT listen to this one. If you are looking for an arguments on how being a homosexual is not from nature but from nurture then maybe, maybe, you might find a crumb here to justify the hour. It's one hour I won't get back... How many books will Audible let you return?

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

There was nothing *horrible* about it.. but it was almost like reading cliff notes of someones diary but without enough to know anything about the person let alone care. I do think the author has potential.. you could envision what was being described but there was just not enough of it.

Would you recommend Lesbians, Crutches, and Suicides: A Soldier's Story to your friends? Why or why not?

In a general sense, I cannot think of anyone in my circle that would want to listen to this. Maybe if one of their daughters was thinking about enlisting they would get some insights.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Mike Tanner?

A man? A man reading a woman's experiences? Really? And, the pace was not done inthe conversational tone I think it was written in. It was near monotone and made the recruit sound less then intelligent.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I feel sorry for the author/recruit. She obviously wanted to serve. But it also got me angry that the suicides were treated so commonplace and that it appeared the training personnel seemed so callous about it.

Any additional comments?

This is way over priced for what you get. In fact.. it should almost be given away free just for the author to get some exposure. There is no substance to this story and the narration just did not fit at all.

a road that shouldn't have been traveled

I absolutely loved books one, two, and three. Book 4 was..ok. Better then nothing but not as good as the first trio.
Book 5, lets be nice and put it this way: if you liked 4 you should like this one. If you thought 4 was a let down, you will hate this one.
Nightrunner, to me, implies the trade and action of the first 3 books.. these last two volumes almost seem completely disconnected with the ideas and premise of the former books. While the characters have the same name and history, they act as if they were different people. The book goes into more a bad moral story then the high adventure that got me into the books in the first place... The main plot was around the thing begot in #4 that I couldn't have cared less about. To be honest, there was nothing that made me care anything and anyone in the book.
Listen to a sample before spending a credit. I wish I had.

I love this series. The first 3 books I could not stop until they were over.

This book was just as good in storyline/plot BUT..

They changed narrators. Adam Danoff does a respectable job but for some reason I was not as tied into the characters. Maybe it is because I am already used to Raymond Todd.

Well worth a listen but a slight let-down from the expectations I had.

Just so there are no surprises.. the two main characters are in love and male. The detail is NOT excessive but these are meant for adults (especially when you compare them to the current run of vampire books).

Not a bad story at all and the narrator did a fair job of building suspense but not really winding it up as tight as it could have dong.

My only beef... a story less then an hour should not be a whole credit. Come on Audible!
