Historia
When monster-hunter Malcolm MacFarlane comes across the gruesome aftermath of a ritual murder in a London church, he enlists the help of magician-scribe Simon Archer and alchemist extraordinaire Kate Anstruther. Studying the macabre scene, they struggle to understand obscure clues in the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics carved into the victim’s heart—as well as bizarre mystical allusions to the romantic poetry of William Blake. One thing is clear: Some very potent black magic is at work.

Love this series!
Revisado: 07-28-15
Fantastic characters, very atmospheric, engaging. Loved this. Let's make it a series of ten instead of a trilogy.

Historia
A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

Great story, wrong narrator.
Revisado: 06-02-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The book needs a different narrator- desperately.
What did you like best about this story?
The story is clever and inventive. It has a real Harry Potter feel to it without feeling derivative.
Would you be willing to try another one of Jesse Bernstein’s performances?
I would try another book read by Jesse Bernstein, but not one that relied on various accents- English, Irish, Welsh- because although he's a great reader, he's not very gifted at doing credible accents. The vast majority of the novel is set on an island off the coast of Wales, and the accents just aren't good at all and I found it distracting.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yes definitely.

Historia
Navajo Nation Police Officer Bernadette Manualito witnesses the cold-blooded shooting of someone very close to her. With the victim fighting for his life, the entire squad and the local FBI office are hell-bent on catching the gunman. Bernie, too, wants in on the investigation, despite regulations forbidding eyewitness involvement. But that doesn't mean she's going to sit idly by, especially when her husband, Sergeant Jim Chee, is in charge of finding the shooter. Bernie and Chee discover that a cold case involving his former boss and partner, retired Inspector Joe Leaphorn, may hold the key.

She's just not her father.
Revisado: 02-19-14
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator was awful. Her attempt at a Navajo 'dialect' was terrible. It made some characters just sound foolish. As a Native American who lives in New Mexico, it was bordering on offensive.
