Historia
Sharp-suited sharpies, slick-talking slicksters, high-rolling gamblers, and habitués of the racetrack - they're all here, and it's all in fun! Straight from the imagination of the legendary Broadway raconteur Damon Runyon, here is another rollicking collection of stories about bets and debts, lovers and losers, con men and wise guys.

good acting, mediocre stories
Revisado: 06-18-24
the characters are well played and for the most part runyon's charm comes through, but the choice of stories is not great, some are dark, and others read like an O. Henry ending.

Fears is too credulous re bible stories
Revisado: 06-17-24
I bought this title as it's a quick and understandable way to learn about some historical events like Caesar crossing the Rubicon, the precipitating incident that began WW 1, for example. But for a "historical" series, Fears is much too credulous to taking bible stories literally - for instance that God actually killed all first-born Egyptian children as part of the 10 plagues, or that the Jews wandered the desert (for 40 years?). I've also read accounts that vary widely with his version of Joseph and Mary traveling overland to register for a census - accounts which say there is no record of such a census taking place, and even if it did, women would not have counted. Also, his colloquial version of conversations taking place between some principals seems very suspicious. this undermines his credibility on other stories, but again, if you want to just go in and out for 30 minute accounts of some events you are curious about, it's worth getting.

Historia
Tonight, Osmond Box, the reclusive yet wildly successful writer/director known for his completely surprising Broadway plays, is debuting his seventh and most highly anticipated production of his career: The Guilty. Nothing is known about the story, the setting, the premise, or even the actors involved. The first people to discover the truth will be the lucky ones sitting in those seats opening night.
