story is unfinished/on hiatus
Revisado: 04-04-25
First a word of warning: the series has been on s hiatus for 2 years at the time of writing this review you might want to check that if you, like me absolutely hate interrupted stories.
This first book feels like it is mostly establishing characters and the world but it is still an interesting listen. The world feels well thoughtout and while the characters are very stereotypicall they still have a sense of plausibility to them.
As for performance? Well, it is stellar as always I think I'd give anything (including a dictionary) narrated by Tess at least 2 stars.

cheesy but interesting

I don't think I've ever been this eager to see a mostly good main character killed. the story is quite cheesy but that is expected from this it is genre I guess.

Interesting narrative with a few cringe worthy moments
Revisado: 04-27-24
First of I'd like to empathize that while I was at first sceptical to his performance, the narrator is truly superlative good! It took me a few minutes but both his voice work and his pronunciation of Chinese words are outstanding (goes to show what multi-linguality does for a person).
As a failed physics major I found some of the science a bit on the way to fantastical side .

Historia
We live in the age of the algorithm. Increasingly, the decisions that affect our lives—where we go to school, whether we can get a job or a loan, how much we pay for health insurance—are being made not by humans, but by machines. In theory, this should lead to greater fairness: Everyone is judged according to the same rules.

Important and interesting.

No matter if you work in Data Science, worry about big brother or just wonder why you keep getting cookie and GDPR pop-ups this is the book for you!
It feels very accessible even to people with limited knowledge of math and "data" but it can still provide valuable hints and guidance on both ethics and model optimization to intermediate data scientists.

Broken and the last parts are missing
Revisado: 10-04-19
the last few books are missing, to say that this is disappointing would be a gross understatement. Daniel Abraham has an unfortunate way of ending his books making it sound as if the recording is broken.,

The store is OK but not great IMO. The last part of the book seems missing though and cuts of in mid sentence.

Historia
Belisarius is a quantum man, an engineered Homo quantus who fled the powerful insight of dangerously addictive quantum senses. He found a precarious balance as a con man, but when a client offers him untold wealth to move a squadron of warships across an enemy wormhole, he must embrace his birthright to even try. In fact, the job is so big that he'll need a crew built from all the new sub-branches of humanity. If he succeeds, he might trigger an interstellar war, but success might also point the way to the next step of Homo quantus evolution.

A more clueless William Gibson
Revisado: 06-03-19
The author is a bit to fond of technobabel considering his apparent lack of grasp on the physics he is talking about. the battle scenes feels messy and poorly structured, but if that is from poor writing or an over-dramatisation by the narrator I can not quite say. The characters are how ever fairly well written if though a bit shallow at times and just barely passes a bechdel test.

Historia
1981. London is bruised by austerity, social unrest and racial tension, and the police are at war. Anger has erupted in the Brixton Riots and is finding expression in protest, anarchy and punk. For Detective Inspector Hobbes, the battle lines are being redrawn within his own ranks as right and wrong are clouded by prejudice. Into this mess comes a murder. A promising young singer has been maimed and killed, and the artistry of the crime is disturbing. On the hunt for the killer, Hobbes begins an investigation that will lead him deep into a subculture hidden beneath the everyday.

it is ok but it doesn't feel like classic Jeff
Revisado: 05-28-19
While the story was cohesive and most characters felt well written it was missing some of the mystery and wonder of the classic Noon novels I remember from my youth. Or perhaps I am just getting old.

good story but short and not my kind of production
Revisado: 05-15-19
the story is a solid youth fantasy novel but rather short. The dramatisation relies more on sound effects and less on narration, some people might prefer this and I might be possible to convince that it is a good idea if it is performed in just the right way but I found many of the effects annoying.
