Historia
Centuries after a war with the Mutes, the first aliens to be encountered by humankind, a startling new discovery in the far reaches of the Orion Nebula appears. On a planet with conditions favorable to life, explorer vessel The Columbia comes across a small town seemingly inhabited by an intelligent species not yet discovered. But when a highly publicized follow-up mission is sent to make contact mere months later, the entire town has vanished, leaving no trace—or such is presumed to be the case until Alex Benedict and his archaeological crew show up to investigate.

Another superb offering
Revisado: 02-17-23
I've now read all of Jack's books. All are solid SF in the footsteps of Pool and Clarke. With much of SF subsumed by the fantasy category, I'm thankful for authors like Jack who are forwarding the SF tradition.

Reviving my faith in SF
Revisado: 12-03-22
MRK is among the finest true SF authors writing today. Original, yet true to the SF tradition. A rousing storyteller while inviting the listener to feel the emotions of the story. I eagerly await each of her books. And she's a terrific narrator as well, of her own and the works of others. Brava!

Historia
Half a century after the Doomsday Battle, the uneasy balance of Dark Forest Deterrence keeps the Trisolaran invaders at bay. Earth enjoys unprecedented prosperity due to the infusion of Trisolaran knowledge. With human science advancing daily and the Trisolarans adopting Earth culture, it seems that the two civilizations will soon be able to coexist peacefully as equals, without the terrible threat of mutually assured annihilation. My favorite series to date
Revisado: 08-06-18
I read a lot of SF. The first installment in this three part series, The Three Body Problem, came to me because it was awarded a Nebula for best novel and well as from a personal recommendation by a mentor. I was hooked. Lots of hard science with more than a sprinkle of philosophy and an intricate and twisty plot. Plus, the expanse of time and space, no joke, the series covers in breath-taking. That said, I found this third novel in the series to most thought-provoking. Truly lovely. Yes, it's long. As is the second novel in the series. Yet, oh so worth it. I did not want them to end. And I eagerly await her next novel.

Historia
Popular author Taylor Clark draws on cutting-edge research in this enlightening exploration of stress—and how to tackle it constructively. Using such divergent examples as Russian sub commanders and game show contestants, Clark shows that most people experience stress the same way. Those who understand how to accept it without freezing can accomplish what needs to get done.

Heartening news about grace under fire
Revisado: 08-07-12
What made the experience of listening to Nerve the most enjoyable?
The author seamlessly integrates narrative story-telling with hard science and with personal experience. Very pleasing that the author avoids cliches in favor of thoughtful analysis.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Not applicable.
Which scene was your favorite?
The contrast between those who freeze under pressure and those who manage their fear to perform regardless.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I wanted a do-this-and-your-fears-will-be-cured. Alas, this is not what the book offers. Instead, the author delivers solid methods to channel fear (nerves) into creative rather than paralyzing effect.
Any additional comments?
Would recommend this audiobook to anyone who faces high-stress activities and has had a tendency to freeze (or flee) under pressure. The author clearly describes the mindset required to overcome these circumstances.

Historia
Maximizing the trader's state of mind is the key to successful results. Conflicts, contradictions, and paradoxes in thinking can spell disaster for even a highly motivated, astute and well-grounded trader. Mark Douglas, an industry consultant since 1982, sends the message that a "thinking strategy" will profoundly influence a trader's success rate. Douglas addresses five very specific issues to give traders the insight and understanding about themselves that will make them consistent winners in the market.

Required Reading for Traders
Revisado: 02-20-12
If you could sum up Trading in the Zone in three words, what would they be?
Essential, Provocative, Enlightening
What other book might you compare Trading in the Zone to and why?
Daniel Kahneman's Thinking Fast and Slow. Both deal with how difficult it is to think in probabilities and how to set oneself up to truly do so.
Which character – as performed by Walter Dixon – was your favorite?
Not applicable.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Both. The mistakes traders make made me laugh as I have done them all. And cry because the solutions are simple but not easy.
Any additional comments?
At some point, every trader will need this book. Douglas assumes the reader already has a system for trading and knows how to use it, i.e., is already practiced at technical analysis. He deals flat-out with the psychological aspects of executing trades effectively.
