Real feel yet still fun!
Revisado: 01-30-25
I loved this book because of how down to earth the storytelling is. We have a post-college age gal just trying to make ends meet and she’s blessed out of nowhere not only a reunion with her estranged father, but a Royal title too! I loved all the Princess Diaries-esque moments that were both fun and heartwarming—without being over the top goofy or unbelievably sappy. Then there’s the mystery and suspense side of things. The author inserts her civilian main characters so believably well into the unraveling of the whole case. Truly well done and so fun!

Historia
Kase Shackley is an embittered hover pilot still reeling from the night his sister died in his arms. He's a screw up in every sense, so when a pilot nearly dies on his watch, he faces serious charges. Seeking to clear his name, he flies a ragtag crew to a lost and dangerous land from which they might never return. If only he didn't have to work with the infuriating bookshop girl who insulted him with Shakespeare

Real characters and plot twists!
Revisado: 01-27-25
I love how well this author set up the whole story! The progression of meeting the cast of characters and getting to know them better throughout the story. The VERY Pride and Prejudice-esque enemies to rivals to friends to lovers romantic subplot. *chef’s kiss*
The worldbuilding is phenomenal! Steampunk with a touch of fantasy. Sooooooo well done and original!
The emotions are SKY HIGH at times, and TW:character deaths on-page as well as recollections of character deaths from before the story starts.

The stakes keep getting higher!
Revisado: 05-27-23
Just when you think you have everything figured out and know exactly where the story is going, the author pulls out a twist that makes you scream “why didn’t I see that coming?!?”
The characters are all growing and learning, the worldbuilding keeps getting better too, and the story overall has me already pining for book three!

Historia
Arriving in San Francisco and investigating the area in secret, the young riders are reunited with Kallista's father, Leo Babbage, who reveals that the humans in the city are working as slaves to the dragons, but that they don't want to be rescued - himself included. He says they are being protected by their new master: a huge, powerful white dragon who lives in an impenetrable tower fortress overlooking the city. Kallista is stunned by the news. Why would her father ever willingly want to work for dragons?

Such a great finale!

Loved listening to this amazing story performed by an amazing voice actor! This story ripped our heartstrings, not just tugged. But the ending really does satisfy. I personally would’ve liked to see more romance in the subplots but it was really an engaging story and told quite well. :)
