Historia
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

Do you love a good ending???
Revisado: 08-07-24
You know how you get to a point in a book when you know it’s just about over, but you really don’t want it to be? Well this author gets you to that point, not once, not twice, but 3 times! I don’t want to give anything away, so all I’ll say is this— the writing is fantastic and the characters are well developed! The plot twists shockingly satisfying! I try to keep my audible choices to 9-10 hrs, but this one (14 hrs) went by quickly!

Likable characters, enjoyed storyline
Revisado: 07-15-24
Audible Listener here. I discovered this book a few days before leaving for our trip to Corolla, and decided to give it a try. I enjoyed the characters and felt that the storyline itself was pretty good. The narrator, however, did not do this book justice. Giving voice to women and children is not his forte. The editing wasn't fantastic, either. There were times, in mid sentence, that the narrator's voice dropped. As bad as I thought the narration was, I continued to listen because I enjoyed the story and wanted to see how it ended---that says a lot about the author! I would definitely recommend it, esp if you are familiar with Corolla.

Historia
It was supposed to be fun. A relaxing trip to a remote mountain retreat where there’s no phone reception. Three couples, friends since high school, are looking forward to a weekend of drinking, reminiscing and flirting. When someone suggests swapping partners, it doesn’t seem like such a bad idea. The lights will be switched off, for privacy. It’s not really cheating if you don’t know who you were with, right? But when the lights come back on, one of the men is dead. No-one can agree who was in which bedroom with whom.

Would make a great Netflix movie!
Revisado: 01-07-24
I enjoyed this book. However, you seriously need to pay attention until you really get to know the characters. I made the mistake of listening while I was at the grocery store. I got distracted and had to go back and listen to a chapter or two because I was lost. The story was good. I thought it was original. The "who done it" had me guessing throughout. I liked the characters--I thought they were relatable. After every book, I ask myself if it would make a good Netflix movie, and this book is ABSOLUTELY YES! I can already picture certain actors in each role lol!

I want to have lunch with Krystal!! This story was performed like no other I’ve listened to. I absolutely loved the point of view format, as well as the 4 different narrators.
These characters came to life through the narration, and I just wanted to keep listening. The characters were well developed and the story never lagged.
Great read. Give it a shot. I guarantee you’ll want to lunch with Krystal, too!

Good short story
Revisado: 04-12-22
This story was pretty good. I enjoyed the twist-especially since I thought I had it all figured out. The only negative comment I have is about the narrators. 2 male narrators have to give voice to the lead female character. The older narrator makes her sound like a petulant child. Then when we switch POV, the younger narrator makes her sound, I don’t know, like an old crackly witch. The story was good enough to keep me til the end, though.

Fantastic story! Would make a great movie!
Revisado: 04-05-22
I thought about downloading this novel about 15 times, and each time I decided against it. The 16th time was the charm. I am so glad I decided to give it a try. The characters were developed well, and I really enjoyed the chapters that played out like a movie. It was different and a pleasant surprise. The main character was believable in how she handled what was happening, and the storyline didn’t have any dead spots. This novel really would make a great movie!

My first Karin Slaughter
Revisado: 02-26-22
I listen in the car, at school before my students come in, at the grocery store, etc. One thing you need to know about this book is that I was grateful I had my AirPods in most of the time. There are some very graphic and shocking scenes, and I was just glad I wasn’t in my kitchen listening without AirPods!
Don’t get me wrong. The story was good and I’ve already purchased the second book in this series, but you don’t want to be “caught” listening to very graphic details by your family as they walk into the kitchen lol!

Fantastic!!
Revisado: 02-02-22
This is the first Janelle Brown novel that I read. Prior to purchasing, I read several reviews. I am glad I ignored the negatives about the characters rehashing the same things as being boring. The different points of view between the two main characters was necessary to the story--and it wasn't boring!!! The author created characters that were intriguing and multifaceted. Great plot twists and a very satisfying ending makes this a 5 star novel!
