Historia
Meredith and Nina Whitson are as different as sisters can be. One stayed at home to raise her children and manage the family apple orchard; the other followed a dream and traveled the world to become a famous photojournalist. But when their beloved father falls ill, Meredith and Nina find themselves together again, standing alongside their cold, disapproving mother, Anya, who even now, offers no comfort to her daughters.

Such an amazing book!
Revisado: 10-20-18
The first half of this book I felt like it was going to a shallow and predictable ending. I was so wrong . What a beautiful book! And as a bonus, the best narrator I think I’ve ever listen to.

The Testament of Mary

Historia
Meryl Streep’s performance of Colm Tóibín's acclaimed portrait of Mary is hailed by the New York Times Book Review as “an ideal audiobook,” presenting the three-time Academy Award-winner in “yet another great role.” Shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, Colm Tóibín's The Testament of Mary presents Mary as a solitary older woman still seeking to understand the events that become the narrative of the New Testament and the foundation of Christianity. In the ancient town of Ephesus, Mary lives alone, years after her son's crucifixion. She has no interest in collaborating with the authors of the Gospel. They are her keepers, providing her with food and shelter and visiting her regularly. She does not agree that her son is the Son of God; nor that his death was "worth it"; nor that the "group of misfits he gathered around him, men who could not look a woman in the eye," were holy disciples. This woman who we know from centuries of paintings and scripture as the docile, loving, silent, long-suffering, obedient, worshipful mother of Christ becomes a tragic heroine with the relentless eloquence of Electra or Medea or Antigone, in a portrait so vivid and convincing that our image of Mary will be forever transformed.

This is a book with a mission
Revisado: 07-25-18
This is a book with a mission. Miracles that happened to show that Jesus is the son of God are presented as an annoyance to Mary. Raising Lazareth from the dead was interfering with the gift of death. And though Jesus could raise someone from the dead, the author tries to convince his readers that Jesus couldn’t make him well enough to stand on his own or or eat more than bread soaked in water.
The Mary in this story is annoyed when Jesus reveals that He is the Son of God, yet any one who has read the New Testament knows that she knew this from the start. The apostles are presented as evil scheming, disrespectful, rude and conniving. The author avoids the fact that one of the apostles was one of Jesus’ four brothers and that they all went on to give lives to teaching the gift of salvation through Christ, suffering persecution and death.
At the cross, the author has Mary hiding in the crowd and feeling guilty, when actually, she stood there at the cross with the apostle, John and her sister and others and Jesus spoke to her.
Jesus is presented as Mary’s ruination and she actually proceeds to worship a graven image with mutable breasts. The author ignores the fact that as a Jew she lived by the 10 commandants, the first one being: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me”
But the final push of this anti Christ account is that when the crucifixion is complete the author mentions some confusing darkness. In reality - Mary must have stood in awe as the sun went black and the earth split from the cross to the tabernacle and the 4” thick and 60 foot long curtain that separated the Ark of the Covenant from the people split from top to bottom, symbolizing that from that day forward, there was nothing separating man from God. Not his humanity or his sin. Because Jesus had offered Himself as the perfect and eternal sacrifice for sin. One of the guards standing by the cross said “Assuredly, this man was the Son of God!”
This book makes me think of Dan Brown’s book, The Da Vinci Code, in which the author actually gets by with having everyone worshiping Mary in a sex orgy because it was her womb that held the Son of God, yet Jesus Christ, the son of God, according to the same book is just a man and not The Son of God. Whaaa??
Why do men write this stuff? Why does Hollywood push it? The intention is for millions of innocent people to turn from very hand of God that is reaching out so compassionately to mankind.
All of those having a part in the production of the many works such as this will, when their time comes, stand before God. We are so lucky that God is instantly merciful and forgiving to those who turn to Him. May God have mercy on their souls.

Anti Christ book for teens
Revisado: 11-03-17
This would have been a fantastic book where it not that it is Antichrist book typically written for teens. Apparently if you want to have a book published for teens it has to be Antichrist and pro-homosexuality.
