Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

This book has it all. Such a fantastic book and the narrator was incredible.
This book is sadly full of real life truths that are and have been touching people all over the country. As a former child welfare social worker I could see so much of this story in the actual lives of my clients. Heartbreaking but yet optimistic.

Historia
This audiobook is expressively for entrepreneurs and business owners who wear many hats - those who can't resist piling more responsibility onto his own shoulders, who has more great ideas than time and resources to take advantage of them, who runs (not walks) through each day. Serial entrepreneur Dan S. Kennedy delivers a fresh take on the mantra "time is money" as he shows you how to drastically re-engineer your entire relationship with time and, if applied faithfully, achieve peak personal productivity and make lots and lots of money.

Fun to listen to, interesting character
Revisado: 10-09-22
I don’t think I would want to work for or with this individual, as I think he is a bit too opinionated and „American conservative“ for my taste, but the book is nonetheless inspiring. Most of this seems like good advice, though some seems from his own little world. I enjoy being on the email list.

Historia
In the military, a field manual provides instructions in simple, clear, step-by-step language to help soldiers complete their mission. In the civilian sector, books offer information on everything from fixing a leaky faucet to developing an effective workout program to cooking a good steak. Leadership Strategy and Tactics explains how to take leadership theory, quickly translate that theory into applicable strategy, and then put leadership into action at a tactical level. This audiobook is the solution that leaders at every level need.

Motivating but Only One Point of View
Revisado: 08-24-20
Just Jocko’s voice is a reason to listen to this and get pumped up. However, realize that his experiences come from his time in the USN—an organization with unique political dynamics, some of which outsiders might consider to be “toxic.”
I liked his ideas on:
- Ownership
- Teamwork
- Humility
Didn’t like his ideas that seemed to me to be superstitious, or to be advocating “approval seeking,” which I see as problematic for the USN or any organization:
- Communicating problems subtly, or advocating “indirect” communication.
- Taking extra care “not to offend”
- Convincing subordinates that “your idea was their idea.”
- That there is a such thing as “born leaders.”
- Emphasizing the need to apologize.

Historia
In January of 1973 Richard Nixon announced the end of the Vietnam War and prepared for a triumphant second term - until televised Watergate hearings revealed his White House as little better than a mafia den. The next president declared upon Nixon’s resignation “our long national nightmare is over” - but then congressional investigators exposed the CIA for assassinating foreign leaders. The collapse of the South Vietnamese government rendered moot the sacrifice of some 58,000 American lives.

Once you’ve read Robert Caro’s books, the standard for Biographies is very high. I found it hard to dig into this. For me it was too much of a collage of anecdotes. I’ll give another go at it at a later time.

Historia
Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this piercing work distills 3,000 years of the history of power into 48 well-explicated laws. This bold volume outlines the laws of power in their unvarnished essence, synthesizing the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, Carl von Clausewitz, and other infamous strategists. The 48 Laws of Power will fascinate any listener interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control.

The 48 Laws of Insecurity
Revisado: 09-27-18
Please don’t listen to this and act out these things. Most of this stuff should probably be seen as examples of how NOT to act, or of things to watch out for. It’s actually an interesting montage of human behavior.
I’m not saying it’s bad or I regret spending the credit. Some of it it is repetitive. But if you want real insight into power, check out Robert Caro’s work.

Fantastic Author and Reader
Revisado: 05-28-18
This whole series is fantastic in its detail and surprising insight into the subtleties and close calls that shaped our recent American history.
Pick up all of these, and then red Caro’s “Power Broker” about Robert Moses.
The only issue with this one volume was that about once and hour a sentence would repeat.

Historia
Robert Caro's monumental book makes public what few outsiders knew: that Robert Moses was the single most powerful man of his time in the City and in the State of New York. And in telling the Moses story, Caro both opens up to an unprecedented degree the way in which politics really happens—the way things really get done in America's City Halls and Statehouses—and brings to light a bonanza of vital information about such national figures as Alfred E. Smith and Franklin D. Roosevelt (and the genesis of their blood feud), about Fiorello La Guardia, John V. Lindsay and Nelson Rockefeller.

Only Robertson Dean’s deep and generically American voice can do this book justice. Only way he says the word “power” can summarize in that one word the full magnitude of what Caro illustrates in the entire book.

Historia
In White Trash, Nancy Isenberg upends assumptions about America's supposedly class-free society. Poor whites were central to the rise of the Republican Party in the early 19th century, and the Civil War itself was fought over class issues nearly as much as it was fought over slavery. Reconstruction pitted poor white trash against newly freed slaves, which factored in the rise of eugenics. These poor were at the heart of New Deal reforms and LBJ's Great Society; they haunt us in reality TV shows like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and Duck Dynasty.

Revisado: 09-27-16
At first I had a bit of a hard time seeing where the book was going. The number of quotes and examples is great, but a little mind-numbing. It was like I was reading "a people's history" all over again. The final chapter did a very good job of bringing it all together though. In the end I'm glad I powered through it.
