Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Didn’t want the story to end. The narrator was lively. I would forget he didn’t write the story.

Historia
Lyrical, poetic, and hypnotizing, The Coming tells the story of a people's capture and sojourn from their homeland across the Middle Passage - a traumatic trip that exposed the strength and resolve of the African spirit. Extreme conditions produce extraordinary insight, and only after being stripped of everything do they discover the unspeakable beauty they once took for granted. This powerful, haunting novel will shake listeners to their very souls.

Historia
Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

I didn’t know much about Mr. X. I only heard negative comments about him. After listening to his autobiography with the amazing narration, by Lawrence Fishburne, and the music they incorporated, I was inspired to reflect on my thoughts, ideas, and biases. I will definitely be listening to this again.

I enjoyed this podcast because of its simple details presented. This is an introductory podcast to the history of Islam; nonetheless, I think anyone can learn, both Muslims and non- muslins

Historia
The true story of a young teacher attempting to change lives in a troubled educational system. According to Ilana Garon, popular books and movies are inundated with the myth of the "hero teacher" - the one who charges headfirst into dysfunctional inner-city schools like a firefighter into an inferno, bringing the student victims to safety through a combination of charisma and innate righteousness. The students are then "saved" by the teacher’s idealism, empathy, and faith. This is not that type of book....

Relatable and interesting
Revisado: 01-13-23
As a student who faced similar circumstances talked about in this book I felt seen and heard. I usually grasp toward historical science but this book was very interesting, simple and a “page turner”. Definitely recommend for teens and up.
The narration was a plus.

Booker T. Washington fought his way out of slavery to become an educator, statesman, political shaper, and proponent of the "do-it-yourself" idea. In his autobiography, he describes his early life as a slave on a Virginia plantation, his steady rise during the Civil War, his struggle for education, his schooling at the Hampton Institute, and his years as founder and president of the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, which was devoted to helping minorities learn useful, marketable skills.

Historia
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

Story and narration was amazing
Revisado: 10-24-22
Amazing narration by Frazer Douglas. Story was simple yet entertaining. Many of us are familiar with Troy, the movie and it wasn’t anything like it which was fine. It only made me pay more attention. Loved the relationship between all the characters. Have to admit I did imagine Achilles as Brad Pitt.

Historia
Forcibly removed from the olive-farming village of Ein Hod by the newly formed state of Israel in 1948, the Abulhejos are displaced to live in canvas tents in the Jenin refugee camp. We follow the Abulhejo family as they live through a half century of violent history. Amid the loss and fear, hatred and pain, as their tents are replaced by more forebodingly permanent cinderblock huts, there is always the waiting, waiting to return to a lost home.

Narrator was a no for me, dawg
Revisado: 10-11-22
Did not like the narrator’s voice. I cringed whenever she would pronounce Arabic words. However, I did shed some tears. Got me in my feelings. Palestine is a beautiful place, and I could envision what the narrator was saying. The story follows a Palestinian family and the generational trauma. Expect to encounter heartbreaks, tears, nostalgia, and a sense for lost hope in humanity regarding the atrocities that happen in Palestine. Full circle moment in the book.

Historia
Drawing on a wealth of untapped archival materials and the reports of generations of family members - mayors, judges, scholars, diplomats, and journalists - The Hundred Years' War on Palestine upends accepted interpretations of the conflict, which tend, at best, to describe a tragic clash between two peoples with claims to the same territory. Instead, Khalidi traces a hundred years of colonial war on the Palestinians, waged first by the Zionist movement and then Israel, but backed by Britain and the United States, the great powers of the age.

Amazing book well narrated
Revisado: 08-01-22
Usually I need to actually be reading books such as these in order to fully understand what the author is saying. Not this book. It was very easy to understand. The history and relationships between countries and actors is painfully sad. I now want to buy the physical book as it’s worth sharing with others this crucial information.
