Historia
Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now 15 and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

Ending made the story
Revisado: 01-16-25
Overall (by the end) I liked the book because it taught me a few things and the story of her past was interesting. But so many times the main character’s granddaughter was so nasty that she was not likable. And if she was trying to solve the puzzle, she made a weak effort. Not really impressed.

Of course Landon, the man who loved her, was amazing. And of course, the main female character was rude and selfish and unlikable. I chose this book because it was a free and a clean romance. I guess I got what I asked for.

Revisado: 10-05-24
This one may be my favorite of the bride series. Such likable characters. I’ve loved the narrator in all 3, this series was with me through all my fall yard work - making the task very enjoyable. Thank you for making it “included with your membership.”

An enjoyable story
Revisado: 10-03-24
I did enjoy this story, and the narrator. Author way overused the word “mayhap.” However it was a very pleasant listen and I do appreciate a romance story that is clean. So much porn in books these days and it does not make the story better. So thank you for your efforts to leave that garbage out.

Historia
In 1969 Dixie Dupree is 11 years old and already an expert liar. Sometimes the lies are for her mama Evie's sake - to explain away a bruise brought on by her quick-as-lightning temper. And sometimes the lies are to spite Evie, who longs to leave her unhappy marriage in Perry County, Alabama, and return to her beloved New Hampshire. But for Dixie and her brother, Alabama is home, a place of pine-scented breezes and hot, languid afternoons.

Well written
Revisado: 09-05-24
While the subject matter was difficult, I felt the author did a good job writing about it. She had a good handle on the way a young girl feels and thinks. Some of her experiences were so real. Heartwarming and painful, like life can be. This book captured me.

Girl with a pearl earing
Revisado: 06-27-24
Not as good as I had expected. Maybe I’m just getting tired of stories built on secrecy that seems so unnecessary when the simple truth would fix the problem. Maybe I find it difficult to enjoy a story with no likable characters in it. Not sure.

Weak story, soap opera like
Revisado: 04-01-24
I kept saying to myself “who talks like that to another person?” and “who dreams up these lines?” and “who describes feelings (or anything) like this?” Example: the guy gets kissed by a girl and he supposedly sees colors and flowing silk and rivers of chocolate - is he on meth? Enough said!

I was a little nervous to start because it deals with kidnapping children, but since I loved two of this authors other books, The Rent Collector and Letters to Emily I went ahead. So glad I did. Another fabulous read by Camron Wright!

At first I was so bothered by the unrealistic huge age gap between the grandpa and his grandchild and his erroneous diagnosis, but the story won me over and I let go of the little issues. Now it’s done and I’m sad. I would like to read the last half of the book again. This is life. Mine actually.

I thought I would love it because of her other books!
Revisado: 03-02-24
I tried to keep listening but I just can’t finish. I’m so tired of the constant and ridiculous unbelievable arguments, contrived unrealistic conversations, secrets held for a lifetime for lame reasons, no likable characters, people who let themselves be walked on forever, and so on. I had read two other books by this author that I liked so thought I would like this one. Silly me. If you want to roll your eyes every few minutes, read it. I wash my hands of it!
